Lesson Plans
Week of: November 28 – December 2
Monday
6-3.1 Summarize the major contributions of the Chinese civilization from the Qin
dynasty through the Ming dynasty, including the golden age of art and literature, the
invention of gunpowder and woodblock printing, and the rise of trade via the Silk Road.
Plan for the day:
1. First Five: List as many ancient Chinese inventions as you can. (have them keep
notebooks until end of class for exit journal)
2. The class will discuss the achievements of earlier Chinese dynasties.
3. Teacher will introduce later Chinese dynasties from Chapter 14 (Tang and Song)
4. Teacher will begin instruction on the achievements of the Tang and Song
dynasties and the golden age of Chinese civilization using Chapter 14 power point.
5. Students will complete Sections 1, 2, and 3 including important achievements in
art, literature, trade, religion, and the inventions gunpowder and woodblock
printing.
6. Students will complete an exit journal: Write a thank you letter to Ancient China
thanking them for one invention and explain why you chose that invention in their
First Five notebooks.

To review the major contributions of the Tang, Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties
6-3.1 Summarize the major contributions of the Chinese civilization from the Qin
dynasty through the Ming dynasty, including the golden age of art and literature, the
invention of gunpowder and woodblock printing, and the rise of trade via the Silk Road.

in a text, including vocabulary specific to domains related to history/social studies
Plan for the day:
1. First Five –
2. Students will complete the “Achievements of China” activity (GRADED
ASSIGNMENT)
3. Students will work with a partner to select 5 achievements of Ancient China to
describe in detail.
4. Students will complete the graphic organizer outlining 5 of the Chinese
achievements using the information provided.
5. Students will complete the reflection questions on the back of their paper.

2. The teacher will review the achievements of the Chinese Tang and Song
Dynasties.
3. Students will complete Sections 4 in their notes, regarding the Yuan and Ming
Dynasties.
4. Students will begin to work on their study guide for Chapter 14.

2. Students will demonstrate knowledge of ancient China by completing the chapter
quiz. (GRADED ASSIGNMENT)
3. After the test, students will define vocabulary for Chapter 15: clans, Shinto, Prince
Shotoku, regent, court, Zen, daimyo, samurai, figurehead, Shogun, Bushido
(Please write the words on the board so that the students can use the textbooks
to copy definitions.)
