1. Levels of Development. What is the HDI and what does it determine? What is the Infant
Mortality Rate? Literacy Rate? Life Expectancy? GDP per capita? How do these indicators
reflect development?
2. Economic Systems. What are the three types of economic systems? What is the economic
spectrum? Draw the spectrum accurately and describe what goes on the right, left and
middle. Make sure you can label the United States, China, Monaco, and North Korea on this
spectrum.
3. Population. Where is most of the world’s population located? What is a population pyramid
and does it show? How could you see if a country needed to invest in the “graying” areas?
How could you see if there had been an extended war? How could you see economic
prosperity? What will a less developed country look like? More developed?
4. Economic activities. What are the four levels of economic activities? Where are people in
the less developed countries located? More developed? Explain each level. What is the
difference between commercial and subsistence farming? What do they each require?
5. What are the six different government systems? Explain each one and provide a real world
example.
FRQs. I am slowly going to pull away from telling you these before the exam. This time around, I am going to provide the
prompts, but not the answers, that is your responsibility before the exam. You will still do them in class like last time, however, I
am not going to provide you with the answers beforehand, that is your responsibility. THESE ARE WORTH 25 POINTS OF YOUR
TEST GRADE!

The Human Development Index formula uses education in addition, to life expectancy and income indices
to determine a countries level of development. (Worth 15 pts)
a. DEFINE five indices that can help define the development of a country.
b. LABEL “COUNTRY A,” using each of the five indices describe how this country could be more
developed.
c. LABEL “COUNTRY B,” using each of the five indices describe how this country could be less
developed.
