Case Study
The Russell Chest Seal® is a medical dressing designed to treat a ‘sucking
chest wound’ or, more correctly, ‘open pneumothorax’ - typically caused
by a stab wound, gunshot wound, or fragmentation injury to the chest.
Having observed major disadvantages in existing
products, Dr Malcolm Russell MBE, Prometheus’
CEO, set about designing a new device, by
combining a highly adherent gel dressing, with a
valve assembly.

All training is delivered by currently practicing
highly-experienced doctors, paramedics and nurses,
in realistic training environments and scenarios. We
specialise in providing bespoke medical training
solutions designed to address specific issues related
to location, organisations or individuals.
In particular, we have proven extensive experience
of providing both medical care and training in
remote and hostile areas, and extensive experience
of planning for, and management of, major incidents
and national disasters. This depth of knowledge
has given us a practical understanding of what is
required to handle a medical emergency with minimal
support and maximum improvisation, enabling us
to pass on this experience in the form of relevant
training, whether this is teaching basic first aid for the
layperson or advanced techniques for the medical
consultant.
Our faculty of experienced instructors all work at the
forefront of emergency medicine and clinical care,
providing a unique understanding of both the clinical
requirements of individual personnel, and also the
tactical and political context in which they will be
working.
Prometheus has sole ownership of a discreet, secure
residential training complex with two classroom
blocks and outbuildings set in over eleven acres of
mixed terrain in the Herefordshire countryside. This
exceptional and unique facility provides an unrivalled
learning environment for medical training. Equally, we

and emergency evacuation plan is key to successful
crisis management, especially if the major incident
occurs on foreign soil. We can help you understand

Case Study
Prometheus Medical Ltd was commissioned by Wembley National Stadium Ltd
(WNSL), to conduct a Medical Planning Compliance Audit for the venue.
The audit examined the planning, documentation,
policy, and written procedures covering WNSL’s
operations, in order to fully comply with local
and national statutory regulation. In addition,
a multi-agency training tabletop exercise was
conducted to test the plan which involved WNSL,

personnel. The audit led to real changes in the
medical plan in order to mitigate risk, meet
regulatory requirements, and make WNSL’s
business more cost-effective.

Prometheus DeltaTech is an innovator and developer
of medical products for the pre-hospital emergency
and military medical markets. Working with a network
of industry leading collaborators and partners,
we develop our own branded products and assist
individuals or companies to bring their products to
market.
DeltaTech aims to develop products that offer real
clinical utility and improvement in patient care. We
use a network of expert ‘hands-on’ clinicians to
identify clinical capability gaps and then create
genuinely innovative solutions for them.
Developing medical products is a multifaceted
process with complex requirements including product
design, managing regulatory complexities and
intellectual property issues. The DeltaTech team has
extensive experience of evaluating ideas and bringing
them to market and we are fortunate to have a team
of product development experts on call, including
clinicians, end-users and regulatory experts, to allow
us to turn a concept into an award-winning product.
Case Study
The Russell PnuemoFix® is a sterile chest decompression device designed for the
management of tension pneumothorax, simple pneumothorax and pleural effusion.
There were already a number of commercially
available products already on the market
but significant evidence indicated that there
were a number of limitations associated with
their application. Studies indicated that
using inappropriate or improvised devices to
perform needle decompression might lead to
complications or may be inadequate.
Wanting to address this, Dr Malcolm Russell
MBE came up with an idea for a device
designed to address many of the clinical

deficiencies seen in other products. Prometheus
DeltaTech performed initial market, regulatory,
manufacturing and IP examinations to find the
best way to bring the product to market. The
product was designed with all clinical inputs
met and manufactured to the highest quality.
This resulted in the market introduction of
the Russell PneumoFix®, which is expected to
become the gold standard treatment for chest
decompression.
