Molecular Imaging Network
Background

MOIN Molecular Imaging Network is a preclinical imaging centre equipped with
state-of-the-art imaging devices like magnetic resonance, computer tomography,
sonography, and optical processes for in-vivo imaging.

Molecular Imaging North (MOIN) history
MOIN originated in 2004/2005 from an initiative of the Department of Diagnostic
Radiology of the Universitätskrankenhaus Eppendorf in Hamburg and research
activities of the Medical Physics Research Group and the Department of
Diagnostic Radiology of the Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein (UK S-H) in Kiel.
Supported by the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft und Verkehr, MOIN-SH
(Schleswig-Holstein) was officially founded in 2005 and since that time works in close
cooperation with MOIN-HH (Hansestadt Hamburg) on developing innovative
molecular imaging methods.

Main activities of the network
The MOIN molecular imaging network aims to offer its competence in imaging to
pharma and biotech companies as well as to contract research organizations
especially in the US and Israel. Presenting the capabilities of the network in
roadshows and participating in partnering meetings in the US and Israel MOIN wants
to establish close contacts with the biotech industry. MOIN wants to promote
the advantages of in-vivo imaging and application of contrast agents in the
drug discovery and development process and show how preclinical drug
development can be accelerated leading to lower failure rates and a much higher
information content on the drugs action very early on.

The Molecular Imaging Network combines the imaging and biological capabilities
of MOIN CC (MOIN Competence Center), the University Clinic Schleswig Holstein, the
Christian Albrecht University at Kiel and the University at Lübeck. With the capabilities
of nanoPET Pharma GmbH and Norgenta GmbH MOIN focuses on developing new,
innovative diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for detection and treatment of
oncological, inflammatory, and neurological processes.

MOIN is looking for business contacts with innovative life science companies, contract
research organizations, pharmaceutical and biotech companies and academic
institutions.

MOIN CC
Focuses on the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for the
detection and treatment of oncological, inflammatory and neurological disorders.
MOIN CC offers its competence in imaging technologies on a fee for service but is also
open to more research based partnerships with industrial or academic partners.
The Molecular Imaging North Competence Center provides infrastructure for

MOIN
Operates all major animal imaging modalities. These new technologies
dramatically open up new possibilities to investigate new therapies as well as
developing biomarkers and diagnostic tools in small animals.

NanoPET
Focuses on the R&D and production as well as marketing of innovative drug
substances for diagnostic imaging. As animal imaging is rapidly gaining
relevance in pharmaceutical research, NanoPET offers an exciting portfolio of
specialized pre‐clinical imaging agents covering the principal imaging modalities
MRI, CT, ultrasound and optical imaging. Nanotechnology is a key element of
nanoPET’s business and allows us to offer materials with unique properties.

Norgenta
Is the biotech cluster management organization for Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein.
It supports companies initiating projects and establishing networks in the area and
positioning companies in the Life Science North cluster.
