The answer to a division problem is called the quotient.
The number which is being divided into equal groups is called the dividend.
The divisor is the number which another number is to be divided by.
A fraction is part of a whole.
The numerator describes the amount used.
The denominator describes what was available.
A variable is a letter or symbol which stands for something unknown.
An expression is a mathematical phrase combining operations, numerals, and/or
variables and does not contain an equal sign.
The result of multiplying one number by another is called finding the product.

A one-step equation requires one step to solve the equation.
The sum of a positive number and a negative number which equals zero is a zero
pair.
A two-step equation requires two steps to solve the equation.
In an improper fraction, the numerator is greater than the denominator.
In a proper fraction, the numerator is less than the denominator.
A mixed number has a whole number and a fraction.
Perimeter is the distance around a figure’s exposed edges.
The distance around a circle is called the circumference.
Area is the number of square units needed to cover a surface.

Volume is the amount of cubic units needed to fill a figure.
B stands for the area of the base of a three-dimensional figure.
A polygon is a closed, two-dimensional figure made up of line segments.
An irregular polygon is a polygon in which all the sides and angles are not
congruent.
A net is a two-dimensional shape which can be folded to form a three-dimensional
figure.
A rectangular prism is a three-dimensional figure with six rectangular faces.
The x-axis is the horizontal axis on a coordinate plane.
The y-axis is the vertical axis on a coordinate plane.
A coordinate pair is the x and y value which shows an exact location on a
coordinate plane.

A translation is a transformation which slides a figure along the coordinate plane.
A reflection is a transformation resulting in a mirror image.
A transformation is a change in the size or position of a figure on a coordinate
plane.
Probability is how likely or how possible something will happen.
An event is something which happens in an experiment.
An outcome is the result which may occur from the event.
Mean is the average of a set of data.
Median is the middle of an ORDERED set of data.

A ratio is a comparison of two things.
Two ratios that have the same value are said to be equivalent ratios.
An equation which states two ratios are equivalent is called a proportion.
A scale drawing is an enlarged or reduced drawing of an object similar to the
actual object.
Similar figures are exactly the same shape, but the sizes may be different.
Sides and angles which are in the same place or match up are corresponding sides
and angles.
Congruent means the exact same size and the exact same shape.
Unit Rate is the rate for a single unit.
Percent means parts per hundred.

Commission is the amount of money earned, usually calculated as a percentage of
sales.
The proportional amount of taxes paid on an item is called tax rate.
The difference between what something cost and what it was sold for is called
profit.
Range is the difference between the largest and the smallest data.
A Venn diagram displays data using circles to show how sets are related.
A line graph shows how the data changes over time.
