review day 9 converting fractions and equivalent fractions and simplest form Jun 289:43 PM
Objective: To correctly simplify fractions and find other equivalent fractions using bigger numbers using different methods. To convert Improper fractions into mixed numbers and vise versa. Virtue/Skill: To have a strong foundation when dealing with fractions in order to add, subtract, mulitply and divide any fraction. This is necessary for when we simplify number and variable fractions but also is a key component of adding or subtracting fractions and solving proportions.

The denominator is 'de name' of the fraction, it tells us the size of piece we are adding or subtracting.
Fractions
The numerator is the 'numer' (number) of pieces of that size we have.
Proper
Fractions that are less than 1.

Fractions are division problems, so divide.
How many wholes does your total pieces make?
Figure out how many of the denominators it can go into the numerator whole without going over, that is the whole number part. Then subtract the numerator and the total pieces you have and that is the left over amount for your fraction part.

Fractions
The big number tells you how many wholes you have, the denominator tells you how many pieces are in each whole, multiply them, then add the extra left over pieces in the numerator of the fraction part.

Equivalent
Fractions
Fractions that keep the same ratio as the original fraction. Created using multiples. Checked by equal cross products.
ex.1 3 4 ex. I earn 90 dollars a day, how much would I earn in a month?

Activity!

Fraction : Who Am I?
1. At the end of your notes, you will be writing this activity down
2. Without looking put the sticky note on your forehead.
3. Go to a person. Ask each other to give you an equivalent fraction not simplest form to the one on your head. Write it down. Repeat for a total of 3 times.
4. Go to a fourth person and ask each other to tell you your fraction in simplest form. Write it down.
5. Go to a fifth person and ask each other to tell you how many times you would have to multiply your simplest form to get to the fraction on your forehead.
6. With the given information, figure out with math what the fraction is on your forehead. When you think you got it, ask a sixth person if you are correct. If not, try again.
