Plate Tectonics Foldable
Create foldables for the plate boundaries to include in your notebook. The finished product will be an
investigation grade. It is due on Friday, December 2nd. Any work you do not finish in class will be
homework.
1. Fold the pieces of paper into the appropriate shapes as demonstrated by your teacher.
2. On the diamond shaped foldable, write the name of each of the three convergent boundaries on
the outside flap.
On the inside, draw a diagram for each of the three types of convergent boundaries (oceanicoceanic, oceanic-continental, and continental-continental).
Label each type of crust.
Show major features of convergent boundaries such as subduction zones, deep ocean trenches,
and volcanic arcs.
Also label the lithosphere and the asthenosphere.
3. On the front of the bi-fold foldable, write transform boundary on one flap and divergent
boundary on the other.
Include a diagram for the transform boundaries under its flap.
Under the divergent boundary flap, include 2 diagrams. One diagram will be for divergent
boundaries under the ocean. Label this one “mid-ocean ridge”. The other diagram will be for
divergent boundaries on the continents label this “rift”.
For each drawing, label each type of crust, the lithosphere, and the asthenosphere.
4. Paste your foldable into your notes notebook when you are finished.
Rubric:
Color
Diagrams
Neatness and
Effort
Color is used appropriately for emphasis of content,
categorization (or color coding) and to indicate different
features of each diagram.
A diagram illustrating each type of boundary is included
under the fold. The diagram should be labeled and
include:
 the type(s) of crust involved
 the geologic features produced
 the lithosphere and asthenosphere
 and where subduction is occurring
Foldables are neat and easy read and use. Finished
product shows effort and attention to detail. Foldables are
attached securely into your INB notebook.
