Throughout the unit on China we have heard constantly about the “Dynastic
Cycle” and “The Mandate of Heaven”. Instead of completing a timeline on a
linear surface., we will create “cycles” showing the rise and fall of each dynasty.
Shang Dynasty:

Zhou Dynasty:

For each dynasty, use one piece of blank paper. Create a cycle that shows their
rise to power, when they had “The mandate of heaven”, the major rulers,
important contributions, and their downfalls and the subsequent loss of the
“mandate of heaven”. Remember that there will be overlap from one dynasty to
the next, as one is falling one is rising. After completing your cycles, please
staple them to this top sheet. You will have two class periods to work, use your
time wisely.
