The deserts on the east and west provided
protection from invaders. It was difficult for an
enemy to send an attacking army across the desert
to invade Egypt.
Why did Egyptians believe that social classes

They believed that a rigid social system was
necessary to create order in society. They feared
that there would not be enough people in the lower
classes if everyone got to choose their social class.

Egyptian women were given more freedom and
rights than anywhere else in the world. They could
own land and run businesses, ask for divorces, and
represent themselves in court. Women could also
hold high ranking jobs like doctor, government official
or priestess.

Ramses II built the temple to honor himself as a god
and to show people coming into his territory from the
south that he was an important and feared leader.

money are on the top and the people with the least
are on the bottom.
It is shaped like a triangle because the people at the
top with the most power are usually the smallest
groups by population. The groups at the bottom
usually have the largest population.
Why did the Egyptians mummify people? (9)
They believed that preserving the body was
necessary so that the spirit would be able to reunite
with it in the afterlife.
What are the three most important Government
Official positions and what are their
responsibilities? (9)
Vizier - head advisor to the pharaoh, who appointed
and supervised high ranking government officials.
Chief Treasurer - Collected taxes and kept track of
the government’s wealth
General of the Armies - Head military commander

Classes lasted from dawn to sunset. Teachers were
strict and beat the students for being lazy or not
paying attention.

write. This was an important skill that we take for

The organs of a mummified body were removed,
dried, wrapped and placed in canopic jars. These
jars were set next to the mummy’s sarcophagus.
Why did the pharaoh Hatshepsut feel a need to
constantly prove herself to her people?
Women were not officially allowed to rule Egypt, so
she spent her entire time as pharaoh trying to show
that she was just as good of a leader as a man.
