Name Meaning of Words and Phrases Organ Systems Working Together
Two of the main organ systems in the human body – the circulatory system and the respiratory system – work as a team to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide around the human body. Blood full of carbon dioxide enters the right atrium of the heart from the superior vena cava and the inferior vena cava. From there it flows into the right ventricle and is pumped out through the pulmonary artery. From there it enters the lungs, where the blood drops off carbon dioxide and picks up oxygen. Oxygen‐rich blood then flows into the left atrium of the heart through the pulmonary veins. From here it goes into the left ventricle, where it is pumped out through the aorta and travels through the rest of the body. This cycle is continuous, with the blood always flowing and the lungs always breathing in oxygen and breathing out carbon dioxide. Use context to write a definition for each word. 1.
