BRIDGES BEYOND FAITH: AN EVENT DEDICATED TO PEACE!
The members of the Consortium invite you to a peace symposium on Sunday,
September 21, 2014. The event begins at 2:00 pm and is followed by a concert at
7:00 pm at 56 Queen Street E, Toronto.
The Metropolitan United Church, the Holy Blossom Temple, the Intercultural Dialogue
Institute and the Peace and Social Justice Foundation proudly present an event
dedicated to the International Day of Peace and call out to all citizens, to gather in
action and celebration.
This first-time event is a unique project to inspire diverse communities, cultures, faith
groups, and seculars alike, to collectively learn about the “Sources of Religious
Conflict in the Middle Ages” and to explore the teachings of “Maimonides, Thomas
Aquinas and Jalaladdin Rumi” with a “Discourse on Peace in the Middle Ages.” This event aims to raise awareness around building bridges among communities and
nurturing the culture of non-violence, intercultural/interfaith cooperation, and
humanitarian action as we break bread together over a special medieval menu.
The final segment of the day of dedication will be a concert in three parts that will
celebrate peace with lyrics of jubilance and compassion sang by the members of the
Lachan Choir conducted by Cantor Beny Maissner; the Metropolitan United Church
Choir conducted by Director and Organist Dr. Patricia Wright; and the Zikr and Whirling
(Sema) ceremonies performed by the Jerrahi Sufi Assembly of the Jerrahi Sufi Order of
Canada.
