CONGRESS – DURBAN
DATE:
01 FEBRUARY 2008
At the onset, please look at the Congress program. It is a magnanimous effort on behalf of the
national fraternity to contribute to an unprecedented extent to our own training and education.
Secondly , we have a superb international faculty. Outstanding features are the categorical course in
HRCT imaging of the Lung and a systematic series of lectures on Primary Bone Tumours. Our
own prestigious faculty will cover topics ranging from MRI of the Breast to a systematic review of
MRI of all the major joints and a focused session on Cardiac imaging. There will also be
original contributions from our academic institutions and coverage of MSK ultrasound. This is an
event not to be missed, at far below par cost. Please encourage registrars, junior as well as staff
radiologists to attend.
At this stage I would like to introduce our international speakers:
1) Prof. Johny Verschakelen and Dr. Walter de Wever, from the Department of Radiology,University
Hospitals Leuven, Leuven, Belgium. They will conduct a unique categorical course on HRCT of the
Lung. These gentlemen are internationally renowned and acknowledged chest radiologists. This
teaching course is internationally widely acclaimed and sought after. They recently published a
superb and ground breaking textbook "Computed Tomography of the Lung", which sets new horizons.
2) Prof. Daniel Vanel, recently moved to the Instituti Ortopedici Rizzoli,Bologna, Italy. He was head of
radiology at Institute Gustave Roussy, France, in charge of education and training. He is also Past
President of the European Society of Skeletal radiology as well as Past President of The International
Cancer Imaging Society. Prof. Vanel will give a series of four lectures on various aspects of Primary
Bone Tumours. Since he is also a member of The French Society of Magic- expect a few surprises or "
vanishing tumours !"
3.Dr. Ronald Shnier, from Sydney Australia. He is attached to the Prince of Wales Hospital and
also Director Symbion Clinical Research Imaging Centre and National Director Research and
Professional Development Symbion Diagnostic Imaging . Dr. Shnier will give a State of the Art
lecture " MSK Imaging at 3T." We look forward to this benchmark lecture.
Attached please find the final program. I have tried my best to keep it even-keeled, from the first to
the last session and hopefully, full lecture theatres throughout.
