Photosynthesis/Cellular Respiration Project Armoni Johnson 2nd hour Biology January 30, 2013 Autotrophs and heterotrophs Autotrophs use sunlight to make their own food. ! Heterotrophs get their food by consuming di!erent organisms. Chemical energy and ATP Chemical energy is stored in their bond by molecules in food. ! Energy is transferred by ATP from the breakdown of food molecules to cell function. Van Helmont experiment He thought the tree that he planted grew from water but it didn't , it came from the carbon in carbon dioxide. Priestly's experiment Priestly used a rat with his experiment. He put the rat in a bell jar with a candle and the rat died. Then he put a plant in with the rat and fire so the rat didn't die. It needed oxygen to stay alive and without the plant in there with the fire it wasn't giving o! oxygen. Jan Ingenhousz experiment he placed plants underwater in a transparent container and saw that the undersides of their leaves made bubbles in sunlight. Photosynthesis and cellular respiration equations Light and pigments Pigments reflect certain wavelengths of visible light and make them appear colorful. Inside a chloroplast the chloroplast was made from an electron micrograph of a chloroplast from a higher order plant (Levy) Explain importance of cellular respiration to production of ATP Cells must have ATP because its the gasoline that powers all living things.
