DEPARTMENT OF MOLECULAR IMAGING & THERAPY Department of Nuclear Medicine & Centre for PET INFORMATION FOR A LIVER SPLEEN SCAN Your doctor would like you to have a Liver Spleen Scan The test is to look at the size, shape and position of your liver and spleen. This test can also be used to assess for hepatocellular disease and portal hypertension. These are diseases of the liver Patient Information : Liver Spleen Scan PROCEDURE • You are given an injection of radioactive tracer, and pictures are then taken of your liver. • The test takes up to 45 minutes. PREPARATION: • No preparation is required An important note for women having Nuclear Medicine Scans: As with any test using radiation, you must contact the Department of Molecular Imaging & Therapy before your appointment if: • You are or may be pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding • Please do not bring children under the age of 12 with you, due to potential for exposure to radiation.
