JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Counsellor Salary: £24,000 -£28,000 pro rata (depending on qualifications and experience) Contract Term: Subject to funding Responsible to: Operations Manager Working Hours: The normal working week will be 7.5 to 15 hours with potential to increase as work expands. Due to the nature of the work you will be required to work such hours as are necessary for the full and effective performance of your duties, including occasional evening and weekend work. Where the proper performance of your duties requires that you work excessive hours, you will be allowed time off work in lieu. Holidays: 25 days per annum plus bank holidays (pro rata) Special Conditions: Evening and weekend work will be occasionally required. Frequent travel in Gloucestershire and occasional national travel. Pension: Auto enrolment pension in place Date written: August 2016 Job summary: The main responsibilities include: • Providing one to one counselling to client of Infobuzz • Completing assessment tools • Maintaining appropriate paperwork and confidentiality Main Purpose: The key tasks will include: • • • • • • • • Assessing referrals that are received and identifying needs. Identifying what level of support is needed - low, medium or high intervention. Providing therapeutic counselling to clients Support with reports for funders and partners. Ensuring that clients understand the service and are competent to consent to engage with counselling in line with Fraser Guidelines. Maintaining appropriate records of counselling in line with legal ethical and organisational constraints. Communicating and liaising with other agencies within the limitations of the role and confidentiality. Encouraging and engaging with the client’s family where appropriate, e.g. to facilitate attendance at appointments. • • • Other duties and responsibilities Maintaining professional membership, insurance and practice in accordance with the ethical framework of a professional body including the participation in regular supervision and CPD. Maintaining awareness of the rights of the child and allow them autonomy within the counselling process. Ensuring that monitoring and feedback is maintained as part of the ongoing sustainability of the service. To aid progressions to positive outcomes. To support new programmes as appropriate. To undertake responsibilities as required to ensure the professional delivery of programmes for the charity. Operate within the policies and procedures of IB. PERSON SPECIFICATION Skills Knowledge and ability Essential • Experience of working in a therapeutic approach. • Experience of working one to one and in groups. • Experience of the criminal justice system. • Experience of the school system and working in schools • Ability to clear the high level prison security procedures. • Experience of working to targets, preferably in a youth or educational setting. • Excellent at sourcing and building quality relationships. • A background in supporting and motivating individuals to achieve their potential • Strong administration skills. • High level of communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, including experience of reporting. • Experience of working on his/her own initiative to an agreed action plan. • Understanding and promotion of equal opportunities in both staff and client work. • Ability to work effectively as part of a team with shared and overlapping objectives. • Driving licence. • A “can-do” approach. • Ability to work flexibly.
