You must do this for all four sets of two ordered pairs. You’re the Teacher: Create a poster that explains how to write the equation of a line in slope-intercept form using each of the following: • a slope and a y-intercept • a slope and a point on the line that isn’t the y-intercept • two points on the line You must provide a set of steps for each situation, as well as at least one example problem for each one. Slope Scrapbook: Using a digital camera, your own photos, or pictures in magazines/newspaper (NO INTERNET PICTURES FROM GOOGLE), create a scrapbook of “Line Pictures”. Your scrapbook should include at least SIX pictures that each have different slopes. • 2 positive slopes • 2 negative slopes • 1 zero slope • 1 undefined slope Calculate each slope and record it on its page in the scrapbook. You need graph paper to complete this. You must include the graph paper when you hand in your final product as proof. Letter to a Friend Explaining Slope: Your friend was absent the days that the following concepts were introduced. Write a detailed letter to your friend explaining ALL of them. You must provide detailed examples. • Slope formula • Slope-Intercept Form • Writing Linear Equations o make sure you address what the forms are and when they are used Writing Equations with Specific Characteristics: Write FOUR equations that would have the following properties: • a slope-intercept form equation with a positive slope and a negative y-intercept • a slope-intercept form equation with a negative slope and y-intercept of 0 • a vertical line • a horizontal line You must provide a graph of ALL FOUR of your linear equations – they must be neatly drawn on GRAPH PAPER. Memory Card Game: Make a set of concentration cards (like the game “memory”) that has students match the slope-intercept form of a line with its standard form. • At least 14 index cards (7 matching sets) • Information should be placed on just one side of the card • Includes an answer key that shows the matches (and the work to translate them from one form to the other) • All cards must be submitted in a ziploc bag Crazy Correlations: Think of at least five different correlation situations and create a graph of mock data for each (don’t forget labels on the graphs!!!!!). Provide a short explanation (3-4 sentences) for each situation that explains why the two quantities represent that type of correlation. Humorous (school appropriate) situations may be used. • Two positive correlations • Two negative correlations • One no correlation Word Problem Worksheet: Complete the attached word problem worksheet. Follow all directions and show all work. Make sure you are answering the question!!!! Graphing an Equation Using All Methods: Graph the equation 𝑥𝑥 − 3𝑦𝑦 = 6 using each of the three methods: • Table of Values • Slope-Intercept Form • X and Y Intercepts Each method should be done on its own piece of graph paper (giving you a total of three graphs of the same line). You should write a set of steps on the graph paper for each method as you graph the equation. Word Problem Worksheet 1. Your neighbors would like a babysitter for their two children. They will pay a flat fee of $10 per child and $0.20 per year of age of the babysitter (YOUR age) as their hourly rate. a. Write an equation that models the hourly rate as a function of the age (in years) of the babysitter. b. Graph the equation. Be sure you correctly label the axes and use an appropriate scale. c. Calculate how much you would make in this job. (Use your own age) 2. Music Company A charges a monthly membership of $25, with each music download costing $0.50. Music Company B does not have a membership fee, but charges $1.50 per download. a. Write an equation for each company that models the total cost as a function of the number of music downloads. b. Graph both equations. Be sure you correctly label the axes and use an appropriate scale. Compare their graphs. c. When is it better to belong to each company? Explain using evidence from your graph.
