Algebra 1 Probability practice Name ___________________________________ Use proper notation for probabilities P(event) = # where # is a reduced fraction. For #1 to #4 refer to the following. A bucket has 4 red, 3 green, 2 blue, and 2 orange marbles in it. Suppose two marbles are drawn, one at a time, from the bucket. 1. Find the probability that the first marble is orange and the second marble is blue. 2. Find the probability that the first marble is red and the second marble is green. 3. Find the probability that the first marble is not red or green and the second marble is green. 4. Find the probability that we get a blue and an orange marble. For #5 to #8 refer to the following table. Students in a small high school were asked what they preferred for lunch at a school picnic and the results were tabulated as follows. Freshmen Sophomore Junior Senior Pizza 18 17 12 19 Tacos 13 14 12 15 Deli sandwich 8 18 16 12 5. Find the probability that a randomly selected student prefers pizza. 6. Find the probability that a randomly selected student is a freshman who likes tacos. 7. Find the probability that a randomly selected student is a freshman or a sophomore. 8. Find the probability that a randomly selected student likes Deli sandwiches given that we know the student is a sophomore. For #9 and #10 refer to the following. Suppose a spinner has 8 equally divided spaces. Each space has a number on it starting with 1 and ending with 8. Suppose a coin is flipped and the spinner is spun. 9.What is the probability that we get a 5 and tails? 10.What is the probability we get and even number for the spinner and heads?
