Report Text Selectable Course Curriculum Page 1 of 7 Course Curriculum Text Report Grade: 9th Grade Course: Pre-AP World History Discipline: Social Studies Board Approval Date: 12/16/2010 Course Description This survey course will take an in depth look at the important historical developments from ancient civilizations through WWII. Students will examine the social, political, and economic factors that have influenced decision making and global events that are the precursors to the world we live in today. Students will examine the 8 themes of World History and the 5 themes of World Geography. Particular areas of study include The Neolithic Revolution, Early River Valley Civilizations, the development of civilization around the globe, Europe in the Middle Ages, The Renaissance and Reformation, French Revolution, Industrial Revolution, WWI, and WWII. Students will focus on primary document analysis, map skills, reading of important texts, and the construction of written works to support historical viewpoints. Course Rationale Pre-AP world history offers students a chance to gain a better understanding of the roots of modern society and the global issues facing them. By examining the origins of ancient civilizations and development of these civilizations over time, students will be able to make connections to events affecting their lives today.
