Fort Sumpter P.G.T. commander of the confederate forces around Charleston harbor, open fire on the Union Garrison holding fort Sumpter. At 2:30 pm on April 13, Major Robert Anderson, Garrison commander, surrendered the fort and was evacuated the next day. The signal to fire the first shot was given by a suvillon Edmond Rufand, a Virginia farmer and editor who had preached succession for 20 years. Only casualty was a confederate horse.
