It is Finished
Accomplishment & Relief
“When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said,
finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”
– John 19:30
“It is
“My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to
accomplish (finish) his work.” – John 4:34
“For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very
works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has
sent me.” – John 5:36
“I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that
you gave me to do.” – John 17:4
1. Jesus Fulfilled the Law

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the
Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not
an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is
accomplished.” – Matthew 5:17-18

The Law and the Prophets = The Old Testament
Fulfilled = Completed – Finished
Jesus lived the law perfectly, met every messianic prophecy,
was able to be our unblemished sacrifice


2. Jesus Prepared the Disciples
3. Jesus Taught the Crowds
4. Jesus Destroyed the Power of the Devil
“Since therefore the children(us) share in flesh and blood,
he(Jesus) himself likewise partook of the same things that
through death he might destroy the one who has the power
of death, that is, the devil.” – Hebrews 2:14
5. Jesus Died For Our Sins

“For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take
away sin. Consequently, when Christ came into the world,
he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a
body have you prepared for me…then I said, “Behold, I have
come to do your will, O God,…And by that will we have
been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus
Christ once for all.” - Hebrews 10:4,5,7,10
Jesus finished every single thing needed for us to go to heaven.
Even with a perfect example of how to get there.
Jesus’ “It Is Finished”
It Was a Cry of Victory
He had conquered sin
It Was a Cry of Accomplishment
He had prepared the apostles and disciples
It Was a Cry of Relief
The suffering was now ending
Your Life Has Purpose
“For the love of Christ controls
us, because we have concluded
this: that one had died for all,
therefore all have died; and he
died for all, that those who live
might no longer live for
themselves but for him who for
their sake died and was raised.”
–2
Corinthians 5:14-15
The Apostle Paul


Paul’s start = Awful
Paul’s finish = Perfect
“I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by the Spirit, not
knowing what will happen to me there, except that the Holy
Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and
afflictions await me. But I do not account my life of any
value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course
and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus,” – Acts
20:22-24
Paul’s “It Is Finished”
It Was a Cry of Victory
He was getting his crown of life
It Was a Cry of Accomplishment
The churches he started, the letters he wrote
It Was a Cry of Relief
His suffering for Christ was ending
When You Look in the Mirror?
Do You See
Someone Finishing Strong?
or a
Half Finished Spiritual
Transformation?
It’s ALL About How You FINISH
“Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I
press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me
his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my
own. But one thing that I do: forgetting what lies behind and
straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal
for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
– Philippians 3:12-14
When Will We Cross the Finish Line?
Jesus Prepared
Have Your Started Yet?
Jesus Prepared Others

“I want the apostles to choose for themselves what they want
to believe.”
“I don’t want to force my beliefs on anyone.”
“My faith is personal, I keep it to myself.”
“I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.”
Have you prepared your family and friends?
Will they also cross the finish line?
Jesus Endured
Finish Your Journey
Finish Strong!
“For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the
time of my departure has come. I have fought the good
fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of
righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will
award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all
who have loved his appearing.” – 2 Timothy 4:6-8

Will It Be a Cry of Accomplishment?
You laid a foundation for your loved ones
Will It Be a Cry of Relief?
You’re leaving a world of sorrow for eternal bliss
Your “It Is Finished”
Will It Be a Cry of Regret?
I didn’t come to Jesus
I crossed the finish line unprepared
Week after week I ignored the invitation of Jesus
