An Open and Shut Case
When muscles work very hard, they need a
constant supply of blood to deliver oxygen and
remove wastes such as carbon dioxide.
TRY THIS!!!!
1. One partner uses a stopwatch and acts as the timer.
2. The other partner squeezes a clothespin between
index finger and thumb (the other 3 fingers must be
extended straight out) as fast as possible for 30
seconds, counting the number of squeezes. Rest
for 10 seconds. Repeat 2 more times.
3. Switch roles and repeat steps 1 and 2.
What do you notice about your performance?

The respiratory System
The Nervous System
Made up of nose, trachea, and
lungs. This system allows
oxygen from the from the air to
enter the body and waste C02
to exit the body. This process
is called respiration.
Made up of the brain, spinal cord
and nerves that exist in every
part of the body. This system
sends and receives nerve
messages throughout the body.
It controls behaviour, movement,
and processes such as digestion
and circulation.

Human Organ Systems
The Digestive System
Made up of the mouth, salivary
glands, esophagus, stomach,
liver, gall bladder, pancreas,
and small and large intestines.
This system breaks down food
so that nutrients can be
absorbed by the blood and
transported to the all cells.
The colon also expels all solid
waste from the body.
