•
Understand basis of datasets
Understand how to enter data into a spreadsheet
Understand time series data
Understand role of data collection in an thorough energy
audit in commercial and industrial buildings
Review of use multi meters
Understand HOBO temperature/humidity trends
Review using light meters and flow meters
Understand additional specialized measurement
equipment
Use a camera to record equipment condition or problems
Data into Spreadsheets
• Data can be entered manually to each cell in a
spreadsheet. This is very time intensive and
tedious.
• Data can be downloaded and imported to an
excel spreadsheet. This is the best way to
populate the rows and columns in a spreadsheet.
• Most energy management systems will create
spreadsheets and even the graphics of the
information for reports and presentations.
• Once the data in in excel, it can be cut and pasted
into every statistical package
Time Series
• Is not as exotic as it sounds
• Simply a distribution of data over time
• Seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks,
months, years
• Bar charts, three dimensional graphics and
many other figures can be produced over time
Cameras
• Essential tool for every energy auditor
• Take pictures of hazardous conditions
• Take pictures of broken or outdated inefficient
equipment
• Take pictures of operations and maintenance
needs
• Drop these pictures into reports and
presentations
• Size, describe and date all pictures
