ONE WITH NATURE…….. AND QUADRILATERALS The Quads Maaaan… A quadrilateral is a four sided polygon where the four coplanar line segments are put end to end to create a four-sided closed figure…maaan. Parallelograms • A parrallelogram is formed by two sets of parallel lines, and the opposite sides of are always the same length. • The diagnals bisect each other. • A parralellogram’s opposite angles are always congruent, and consecutive angles are always supplementary. • If a parallelogram has an angle measuring 90 degrees, then all the other angles must also be 90 degrees. Make Rhombi, Not War Peace, Love, Rectangles • A four-sided polygon with all angles measuring 90 degrees. • A rectangle’s opposite sides are both parallel and congruent. • The diagnels are congruent and bisect each other. Be One With the Squaaare A square is a four-sided parallelogram where all four angles are congruent and measure 90 degrees. Trapezoid • A trapezoid si a parallelogram with two bases and at least one pair of paralel sides. • A close cousin to the trapezoid, the trapezium, has no parallel sides, and is the definition of a trapezoid in the UK. Isosceles Trapezoid • The bases of an isosceles trapezoid are parallel, the opposite angles are congruent and its opposite sides are exactly the same length. If you fold an isosceles trapezoid over itself, it lines up perfectly, so each set of base angles are congruent to each other. Flyin’ High as a Kite • A kite’s diagnals intersect at a right angle. They have two sets of adjacent angles, and only one set of congruent angles. The long diagnal bisects the short diagnal to form four right angles.
