I will start on 29. I know that if I add 1, I will land on 30. 30 is a
friendly number (nearest ten). Then I have 3 more to add. So, 30
+3 =33. The jumps on the number line show I added the numbers.
This is called bridging.
Another way to think about it:
29 +4 is the same as 29+ 1 + 3.
29 +1 + 3
(You want to get to the nearest ten.)
30 + 3 = 33

Looking at this equation, I want to start with the greater number.
I will start on 58. I know that if I add 2, I will land on 60. 60 is a
friendly number (nearest ten). Then I have 4 more to add. So, 60
+4 =64. The jumps on the number line show I added the numbers.
This is called bridging.

58 +6 is the same as 58+ 2 + 4.
58 +2 + 4
