Augustus Essay Due
Speech Assignment: Due Wednesday, 3/23
Revise your Caesar/Brutus essay from Unit 3 into a two-to-three minute speech for delivery to your
classmates in class on Wednesday. You should pick out the best parts of your essay and refine your writing
for delivery as a speech. You do not need to memorize your speech, but neither should you should just
read it directly from the page. Instead, use your revision as notes for a dramatic rendering of your
argument. Your goal is to persuade your fellow senators either to support Antony and Octavian or to
support Brutus and Cassius. Argue as if your life depended on it – after all, that’s the precisely the position
that confronted Roman senators in 43 BC.
