Hoop Extraordinaries - From Baltimore, MD, Erin and Hillary have been performing
on the east coast as professional circus artists since 2011. They specialize in hula-hoops, juggling
and twirling as many as six hoops at once around each limb and even their noses! Their funky yet
graceful style is rooted in a lifetime of dance training and a love for whimsy and wonder. They are
passionate about entertaining, AMAZE-ing, and making people smile! December 2nd at 7:00pm –

Southwest Virginia Ballet – Performing excerpts from the holiday classic, The
Nutcracker (full-length ballet performance of The Nutcracker – December 10 and 11 at The
Berglund Performing Arts Theatre) as part of Dickens of a Christmas celebration. During
this Victorian Christmas tradition, SVB’s pre-professional company will delight with beautiful
choreography; helping us enjoy the wonder of this holiday season. December 2nd at 6:30-pm

City Modern Ensemble of the Roanoke Ballet Theatre – The City Modern
Ensemble is the professional and community modern dance company of the Roanoke Ballet Theatre
headed by Ms. Liza Deck. Their goals are artistic integrity, originality and equality. They have

Sword Swallower – Tyler Fleet – Formerly with the Coney Island Circus Sideshow, The

amuse, and amaze audiences of all ages! Hosted by silver-tongued devil, TYLER FYRE. December

David Bear Stuart, Juggler – David is Southwest VA’s premiere interactive juggler. David
has performed at the area’s leading venues including the Greenbrier Hotel and The Homestead.

Mill Mountain Ringers – The Mill Mountain Ringers are Roanoke’s only communitybased hand bell group. Their renditions of holiday carols are sure to delight and get you in the

Dickens Street Acting Project – This year marks the 21st Anniversary since the
Dickens Street Acting Project has been at Dickens of a Christmas. Over 30 talented students from
William Fleming High School participate in this community-wide effort, directed by Mrs. Lindsay
Jackson. Dressed in period costumes portraying characters from “A Christmas Carol,” the students
will use their creative and acting skills to bring Dickens’ characters to life. December 2nd, 9th, and
16th starting at 6:00pm
Mill Mountain Theatre – Roanoke’s premiere regional theatre with over 50 years of
bringing live theatre to Southwest Virginia. Mill Mountain Theatre offers classes for ages Pre-K

Carolers of Christmas Past – Based out of Winston Salem, NC, the Carolers of
Christmas Past is an acapella quartet dressed in authentic Victorian costumes with an extensive
repertoire of both traditional and holiday carols. Since 2001, their performances have included
the North Carolina Governor’s Mansion, the White House in Washington, D.C., and Dickens of a
Christmas. December 2nd starting at 7:00pm
Fame Allstars Cheer Group - Fame Allstars is a National award winning competition
cheerleading gym located in Salem, VA. They offer teams and classes coached by experienced
USASF certified coaches for athletes ages 1 year to adult and specialize in choreography and camps
for many local school teams. Fame also provides competitively priced birthday parties and banquet

Miss Mona’s School of Dance & Performing Arts – Miss Mona’s School of
Dance, a long-standing featured performer at Dickens of a Christmas, is celebrating 60 years of
excellence in the performing arts in the Roanoke and Salem area under the same ownership.
The studio offers lessons in voice, drama, and all forms of dance, is the home to the competition
team “The Rhythmettes”, and is proud to have students appearing with Showtimers, Mill Mountain
Theatre, local and regional theatre productions, the Southwest Virginia Ballet’s Nutcracker, and Walt

Floyd Ward School of Dance – The Floyd Ward School of Dance is a celebrated icon
in the Roanoke Valley as it has been in operation since 1928. Classes in ballet, tap, jazz, pointe,
clogging, hip hop, lyrical, and tumbling are offered weekly at these locations. Over 125 Floyd Ward
students participate in district, regional, and national competitions. December 9th at 9:00pm –

Patrick Henry Dance Group – The focus of the Patrick Henry High School Dance Group
is to develop their creative and cognitive skills through movement. Focusing in areas of modern
dance, ballet, choreography, jazz, and hip-hop dance, students become well rounded through the
integration of technology in movement and the verbalization of opinions. The Dance Group is

Heights Community Church Praise Band - The worship ensemble of Heights
Community Church, Roanoke, is comprised of the vocalists who lead the congregational singing and
offer special music by presenting a wide range of musical styles from contemporary to traditional.
The ensemble consists of soloists and a variety of mixed groups that offer a blend of music that
is uplifting, encouraging, and worshipful. The ensemble is under the direction of Melia Garber.

Sally Edelman, Face Painter – Sally is an award winning Face and Body Artist from

The RoaNotes – The RoaNotes, founded in 2011, is the first and only co-ed a capella group
at Roanoke College. Numbering 18 strong, the RoaNotes sing several performances per semester
at Roanoke College while arranging and rehearsing their own music. They also sing at many events
outside of school and compete in the International Championship of Collegiate A Capella. December

Triad Aerial Arts – Sabrina Woods is the owner of Triad Aerial Arts and Fitness1Studios,
both of Greensboro, NC. Sabrina takes utmost delight in bringing elegance and grace to public

William Byrd High School Choir – Under the direction of Mr. Matt Bartley, the William
Byrd High School choir returns to Dickens of a Christmas for their third year. The William Byrd
High School Choir is delighted to perform their selection of holiday songs for everyone to enjoy

December 2nd, beginning at 5:30pm at
Wells Fargo Plaza
Sponsored by Downtown Roanoke Inc., City
of Roanoke, and the City of Roanoke Parks
and Recreation Department, the tree lighting
will be held on December 2nd at Wells Fargo
Plaza located on Salem Avenue. The ceremony
will begin with a special performance by The
RoaNotes at 5:30pm. WSLS 10’s countdown to
the tree lighting will begin at 5:45pm with the
actual lighting at 6:20pm

Christmas Parade
December 9th at 7:00pm
Costumed characters, horse-drawn carriages,
strolling carolers, marching bands, jugglers, and
numerous community groups all highlighting
various holiday traditions are just a few of the
unique things you will see filling up the streets
as this parade strolls through Downtown. The
parade route begins at the corner of Elm Avenue
and Jefferson Street (Elmwood Park) and
continues north on Jefferson Street to Campbell
Avenue, then east on Campbell to Market Square.

RVSPCA’s Pet
Costume Contest

The holidays aren’t just for humans! Dress your
pet(s) in holiday outfits and come join the fun
and laughter at the annual RVSPCA Pet Costume
Contest. The fun-loving contest at Wells Fargo
Plaza on Salem Avenue will be followed by great
prizes for the winners.
