POSSIBLE
WHAT ARESOLUTIONS
THE MAIN ISSUES
Even though China has achieved extraordinary economic
growth following the adoption of its reform driven open door
policy in 1978, societal and environmental development
continue to lag behind. Though China has made great leaps
in reducing poverty, there remain areas that are still in need
of improvement. Social injustice and inequality have
increased. The yawning gaps between China’s eastern and
western regions, and between its rural and urban ones,
alongside the degradation of the environment and the
underdeveloped civil society have created situations of
fragility for the Chinese people. It has become even more
timely for China to find an effective and efficient way to
fostering a just, equal and balanced social order while
achieving rapid economic development.
HOW CAN UNDP HELP
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS
To effectively address China’s societal and environmental
development, we need to constantly measure progress to
make suitable adjustment where needed and learn from our
achievements and mistakes. This is where big data can help.
Big data, the high volume, high velocity, and high variety
information assets, provides cost-effective, innovative and
real-time forms of information processing that allow for
enhanced insight, effective decision-making, and increased
process automation. Using big data for development
purposes allows us to turn imperfect, complex and often
unstructured data into actionable information that can unveil
trends and patterns within and between datasets. For
example, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences applied big
data analysis to monitor and evaluate the trend of housing
price and effects of every round of regulation and control in
China for better policy formulation.
We can help you build an indicator/ index, generate mapping and provide multidimensional poverty analysis in the following
areas:
