Word Study Homework Sentences – Write one sentence for at least 8 of your spelling words. Be sure to write a “two thumbs up” sentence for each word. Underline the word you used in each sentence. Story – Write a story (true, silly or make-believe) using 8 of your words. Underline the words you used. Letter – Write a letter to a friend, parent or teacher using 8 of your words. Underline the words you used. Poem – Write a poem using 8 or more of your spelling words. The poem does not have to rhyme. Colored Vowels and Consonants – Write all your words in pencil. Use one colored crayon or marker to trace all the vowels. Use a different color to trace each consonant. Rainbow Words – Write your words in pencil. Trace each word neatly 3 times with 3 different colors. Spelling Stairs – Using 8 of your words, write the 1st letter of your word in a box. Below that, write the 1st and 2nd letters in 2 boxes. Below that, write the 1st, 2nd and 3rd letters in 3 boxes. You can write it yourself or try www.puzzlemaker.com for help. (just insert the print out in your binder) Rhyme – Write your spelling words. Next to each word, write a word that rhymes with it. Draw and Label – Choose 8 words and draw a picture that represents the word. Spell the Word 3 Times- Write each word 3 times each in your neatest handwriting. ABC Order – Sort your words then write them in ABC order. Word Collage – Cut out the letters for at least 8 of your words from a magazine or newspaper. Glue the letters on a piece of paper to spell the words. Scrambled Words – Make 2 columns on your paper. Write your words on one side. Then write each word scrambled on the other side. Have a parent or friend see if they can match the spelling word to the scrambled word. Definition – Look in a dictionary to find the meaning of at least 5 of your words. Write the definition next to the word. Glue Sort – Sort your words and then glue them to a piece of paper according to how you sorted them.
