Comparative Anatomy of the Gastro-Intestinal Tract
Purpose
A resource for A-level Biology students studying the digestive system. It could be
used as an extension or homework task.
Learning Objectives
1. Compare and discuss the anatomical differences of the digestive tract from
different domestic species and relate these differences to their functions.
2. Describe the anatomy and physiology of the digestive system in a species
of your choice.
Student Instructions
Your task is to use all of the above terms to produce a concept map. You must
clearly annotate on your map how each of the terms are linked.
Then each choose one species, using at least one term from each of the sections
describe the important anatomical and physiological features of the digestive
tract in that particular species (maximum 500 words).
