Claire Qian, Winburn Middle SchoolQian, (859) 489-4341 "Humankind striving and destroying for a better Future" Many ordinary people, including me, don’t like to step outside our comfort zones, we find venturing outside of our ‘’bubble’’ to be rather difficult and unnecessary .As a child who has grown up in thinking that the world is one big happy family that thrives and progresses together; I was disappointed to find that the "happy" family has progressed only through the sufferings of others around them. I learned, however, the reason behind this theory is the simple fact that any great civilization would only be able to prosper and expand if it’s at the expense and the defeat of others, for life is like the stock market, you only win when others lose and you have to lose to win. But what drives the human will to continue going through the cycle of sacrifice and winning? My answer is humankind’s hope and relentlessness of achieving the three components, Justice, Equality, & World Peace which will create a virtually flawless world. Like Martin Luther King has said, “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals”. This stresses the importance of our will to do the better good in society and progress in our universal goal of achieving Justice, Equality, & World Peace. Although there are many people today who do claim they strive for these three components, many are discouraged, thinking that they can’t do anything to help humankind’s struggle. But the reality is everyone is able to contribute, from a scale of standing up for your friend at school to leading a union group to fight back against unfair treatment. Children like Craig Kielburger, Iqbal Masih, and Malala Yousafzai sacrificed and dedicated their time to strive for the better future for everyone, and we can do too.
