Learning Objectives - Participants will be able to:
 Review challenges and pitfalls in antimicrobial stewardship in the
community health system setting
 Describe an interprofessional team approach and recommend
strategies to achieve the goals of
antimicrobial stewardship in health systems.
 Discuss the utilization of clinical decision support and rapid
diagnostics as important antimicrobial stewardship tools
 Review currently accepted definitions of sepsis and septic shock set
forth by the surviving sepsis campaign.
 Discuss sepsis quality metrics currently in place and the impact on
patient care
 Describe successful initiatives to improve sepsis outcomes
 Review testing concepts and impact of interpreting results of pretest
probability, incidence, prevalence, sensitivity, specificity, and positive
or negative predictive value.
 Explain the four targets of testing (pathogen, antibody, antigen, and
nucleic acid) and understand "one size does not fit all".
 Select the correct test and interpret results for common infectious
febrile illnesses and sexually transmitted diseases
 Describe appropriate testing for diseases transmitted by arthropod
vectors in Florida
 Review current knowledge of Zika virus transmission
 Describe current clinical guidance for prevention and treatment of
Zika virus
 Identify opportunities for state and local programs to reduce risk of
Zika transmission
