Undergraduate Peer Advisors
Academic Year 2015-16
Peer Advisors are senior undergraduate students who major within the biological sciences and have gone through
training with the College Center for Advising Services in coordination with the Undergraduate Program in Biology and
Medicine. They can help students connect with faculty, discuss academics and share their research experiences. If they
can't answer your question, they are happy to point you in the right direction! Email your questions to [email protected].
Morgan Albert is a senior majoring in Cell and Developmental Biology with a minor in
Morgan Albert ‘16, BCD
Emily Fitzgerald ‘16, B
Alexandra Marasco ‘16, BMG
Victor Wang ‘16, BMG
Spanish and a cluster in Psychology. She is currently a tutor for BIO 198 (Genetics) and serve as
co-president for the Charles Drew Pre Health Society and the former director of academics for
Alpha Phi. She has completed two independent study projects with Dr. George Porter (MD/PhD)
at URMC and is continuing her research to complete a senior thesis. She has also been a SURF
(Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship) student at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Dr.
Rashmi Hegde’s (PhD) lab for the past two summers. In the future she would like to pursue
medical school. Email: [email protected] Emily Fitzgerald is a senior pursing dual majors in Microbiology and Epidemiology. She
works as a research assistant in the Caserta and Pryhuber labs at the University of Rochester
Medical Center conducting both clinical and basic research to study child and infant
development. Over the Summer of 2015, Emily served as a pediatric infectious disease
researcher in the Strong Children's Research Center Summer Internship program. She has been
a teaching assistant for BIO 113 and CHM 203. Emily is currently serving her second term as R/C
MERT's Director of Training and volunteers as an EMT-B both on the University of Rochester
campus and in the Rochester-area community with Brighton Volunteer Ambulance. After
graduating, Emily hopes to attend medical school and become a physician.

Alexandra Marasco is a senior majoring in Molecular Genetics with minors in both
Chemistry and Studio Arts. Previously, she was a teaching assistant for Biology 111 and
Organic Chemistry I and II. In the Fall 2015, she looks forward to TA’ing for Genetics. In
addition to her teaching assistant positions, she works at Golisano Children’s Hospital in the
department of Pediatric Nephrology where she serves as both an office assistant and research
assistant. Currently, She is aiding in the study of the morphology and role of intercalated cells
in the collecting duct of mice kidneys. This upcoming year she is also conducting an
independent study in the department. Additionally, while at home in Buffalo, NY she is an intern
at an allergy/immunology practice. After graduation, she hopes to attend medical school and
become a physician. Email: [email protected] Victor Wang is a senior pursuing a BS in Molecular Genetics with a minor in Psychology. He
has conducted research in Dr. Anolik’s immunology lab since the summer of 2013 and was
awarded the deKiewiet Fellowship for Summer 2015. He is working on discovering the role of B
cells in bone homeostasis in Rheumatoid Arthritis, focusing on their cytokine secretion
function. Victor has also served as a teaching assistant for organic chemistry I and II (CHM
203+204) and twice for general chemistry (CHM 131). He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa as a
junior and plans to pursue a career in medicine after graduation.

Eric Wilson is a senior majoring in Biological Sciences – Molecular Genetics with minors in
Clinical Psychology and Philosophy. During the summer of 2014 he interned in the HighThroughput Screening Lab at Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute. Here, Eric
assisted with the assembly of a library of chemical cocktails that are used to screen biological
macromolecules for potential crystallization conditions. At the University of Rochester, Eric
currently works in the Thornton Lab, which studies myotonic dystrophy using mouse models,
and he has previously conducted clinical research as a member of the Emergency Department
Research Associate staff. He has been a workshop leader for BIO 112 and BIO 250 as well as a
teaching assistant for BIO 113 and BIO 198. He is a member of the Society of Undergraduate
Eric Wilson ‘16, BMG
Biology Students, he is currently the Vice President of Loss Prevention for Delta Upsilon, and he
is also the Business Manager of the Order of Omega honor society. After graduation, Eric plans on taking a year or two
off of school to pursue job opportunities but he eventually hopes to earn an MD/PhD.

Christine Ziegler is a senior pursuing a BS in Molecular Genetics and a BS in
Chemistry with a Certificate in Biotechnology. Christine has worked in the Fasan Lab at U of
R since her freshman year and during Summer 2013 as a Chemistry REU student on
evolving enzymes to incorporate unnatural amino acids into peptides via stop codon
suppression. During Summer 2014 she was an Amgen Scholar at Columbia University
where she studied ultradian rhythms in yeast and during Summer 2015 she worked at
Princeton University on small RNAs that regulate quorum sensing in cholera. Aside from
research, Christine has been a Teaching Assistant for Organic Chemistry I & II (171 series
and 203 series), BIO 112, Genetics, Honors Biochemistry, and CSC 161. She is currently the
President of the Society of Undergraduate Biology Students (SUBS) and served as
President of the Undergraduate Chemistry Council (UCC) last year. After graduation,
Christine Ziegler, ‘16, BMG/CHM
Christine wishes to pursue a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology or Biological Chemistry. She is
happy to answer any questions you may have regarding majoring/minoring in biology or chemistry or how to get started
on research! Email: [email protected]
