Innovations in Cancer Control Grants 2017-18 – FAQ
Timelines
1. When is the closing date for the Expressions of Interest?
o
Applications close at midnight 14 May 2017
2. Will late applications be accepted?
o
No, the Cancer Institute NSW does not accept late grant applications
3. How much time is given to develop the application?
o
The Cancer Institute NSW has allocated five and a half weeks for applicants to
develop their submissions from the time the grants are advertised on
5 April 2017 to the closing date, 14 May 2017.
4. When will I be notified of the outcome of my application?
o
Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified from mid to end of
June 2017.
5. How long are the grants?
o
The grant projects must commence in July 2017 and be completed by the end
June 2019. The duration of the grants varies from 12 months to 24 months
depending on the priority area. Please refer to page ‘3’ of the EOI.
Applications
6. Who is eligible to apply for the grants?
o
The applying organisation must be registered, based in NSW, provide services
for the NSW population and have a demonstrated interest in cancer control.
Eligible organisations include Local Health Districts, Primary Health Networks,
BreastScreen NSW Screening and Assessment Services, Community and NonGovernment Organisations and Local Councils. Please refer to page ‘3’ of the
EOI for eligible organisations in each priority area.

7. What are the application criteria for these grants?
o
The eligibility criteria are listed on page ‘2’ of the EOI Guidelines.
o
Each priority area also has Essential and Desirable criteria, plus a list of Out of
Scope items.
o
It is important that you familiarise yourself with the EOI Guidelines document
to make sure your organisation is eligible to apply and that your application
fulfils the specific criteria of your chosen priority area.
8. How do I apply for a grant?
o
To apply, access the EOI Guidelines and application template on the Cancer
Institute NSW website.
o
Email the completed application template and any supporting documents to
[email protected] by the closing date. Please make sure you
enter ‘Innovations in Cancer Control Grants’ plus your priority area and
number, in the e-mail subject line.
9. Where can I access the application template?
o
The application template is available on the Cancer Institute NSW website.
10. Can one organisation apply for more than one grant?
o
Yes, organisations may apply for more than one grant in the same or different
priority areas. PLEASE NOTE: A separate application form must be submitted
for each application.
11. Does the application need to be signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)?
o
Yes, applications must be signed by the CE/CEO of the applicant organisation.
12. Do I need to include a supporting letter with the application?
o
A signed cover letter from the CE/CEO endorsing the application is to be
provided.
13. Who do I contact if I have any questions about my application before the closing date?
o

Outcomes and Notification
14. What happens if my application is successful?
o
The Cancer Institute NSW will contact successful applicants by letter and e-mail
and an agreement will be issued for the organisation to sign between June and
July 2017. Successful applicants will also be asked to participate in a grant
commencement meeting in July or August 2017. This can either be a face to
face meeting or via teleconference if more convenient for the applicant.
15. What happens if my application is unsuccessful?
o
Unsuccessful applicants will receive a letter of notification. The Cancer Institute
NSW is unable to provide further feedback at that stage of the application
process.
Types of Grants
16. What types of grants are offered in the Innovations in Cancer Control Grants?
o
The Grant Program will provide funding to organisations working in cancer,
health and other related services to undertake evidence-based projects that
have the potential to be embedded in the health system and be sustainable
past the funding period.
o
The focus of these grants is community and service-centred initiatives, and not
research proposals.
17. What priority areas are offered in this round?

Grants are offered in the following 11 priority areas:
1. Aboriginal Community Engagement
2. Bowel Cancer Screening: Improving access to public colonoscopy services
3. Bowel Cancer Screening: Multicultural Community Engagement
4. Breast Screening
5. Building on Innovations within Local Health Districts
6. Cancer Optimal Care Pathways

8. Cancer Prevention: Sun Protection
9. Cervical Screening
10. Multicultural Community Engagement: Improving access and equity for
Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities

Funding
18. What funding is available for each grant?
o
The funding available varies for each priority area, is dependent the priority
area selected and the duration of the grant. Please refer to page ‘3’ in the EOI.
o
Applicants must include a proposed project budget in the application as this will
inform and support the amount of funded requested and the funding period.
19. When will funding become available?
o
Funding will be available to successful applicants from July 2017.
Reporting and other requirements for successful applicants
20. Do I need to write a project plan or evaluation framework?
o
A detailed project management plan is required at the beginning of the grant
period.
o
Some priority areas also include an evaluation framework as an essential
criterion. Successful applicants will be notified of this requirement at the time
of signing a grant agreement.
21. What are the reporting requirements?
o
Progress reports are to be completed as outlined in the schedule in the
agreement for the duration of the project, and a final report is due at project
completion. Financial reports are due annually.
o
Reporting templates will be provided to successful applicants.
o
A schedule outlining the reporting due dates will be included in the agreement.

o
Face-to-face or teleconference meetings with the grantees will be scheduled at
the commencement of the project and quarterly, or as needed depending on
priority area, for the duration of the project.
