Leadership through EEF
• EEF focuses on learning and building skills, knowledge
and leadership of the fellow through a host work
environment in the fellow’s field or area of expertise in
an informal programme
• EEF programme on TLT held at CSU where the presenter
was the fellow
• EEF plan implemented through Self Directed Learning
(SDL)
Leadership through EEF
• Human Capital refers to a broad range of knowledge,
skills and capabilities that people need for life and
work (World Development Report 2007)
• Leadership is not about a title but is, rather, about a
series of knowledge, discipline, characteristics,
actions and perspectives (Bernier, 2015)
Leadership through EEF
Leadership is built up through• Self Reflection
• Experience
• PD/training
• Interactions
• building knowledge.
In the SDL process during the EEF program, the above
phenomena occurred and the Fellow developed
leadership qualities.
Leadership through EEF
Therefore, this SDL study concludes that:
• Leadership also develops through the SDL process
• Human Capital reinforces the development of leadership
• SDL produces Human Capital
• Leadership qualities and Human Capital promote SDL.
That means that HC, Leadership and SDL reinforce each other.
The following diagram shows the dynamic inter-relationship
between HC, SDL and Leadership as conceptualized through the
SDL process of the Fellow during the Endeavour Executive
Fellowship at CSU.

Leadership through EEF
• The outcome of this Fellowship is the application of knowledge,
experience and leadership qualities in the development of his
institution.
• Leadership is an integral part of institutional development
(Cummings & Worley, 2005) and according to this SDL Study,
leadership interacting with HC and SDL, enhances institutional
development (as shown in the above diagram).
