How do we hear?
Label the structures of the ear
Explain how a sound outside the ear turns
into a signal that gets to the brain.
Listen and draw
• You need to get into pairs and number yourselves
1 and 2. You will need a piece of paper.
• 1 you need to face away from the board
• 2 face towards the board but not able to look at
1.
• Number 2 will have 2 minutes to describe to
number 1 what is on the board and they must
draw it.
• Swap roles and do the same again.

For each step of hearing, you will need to draw a
picture to represent that step.
At the end, you will need to decode your
pictures to work out what they mean
Narration
1. Sound funnels down to the ear drum
2. The drum hits the bones: hammer anvil and
stirrup
3. The bones hit a liquid
4. The liquid moves some tiny hairs
5. The tiny hairs send signals to the brain
6. The brain puts the signals together to
understand the sound
