Muscular System
 Muscles provide strength, balance, posture, movement and
heat for the body to keep warm.
 Move body by contracting and relaxing.
Three Types of Muscle Tissue:
o Skeletal Muscle
o Smooth Muscle
o Cardiac Muscle
Skeletal Muscle Tissue
 Skeletal Muscle – Muscles you control to do activities
• They attach to bones of the skeleton
• Thick tissue called “Tendons” Connect muscle to bone.
Smooth Muscle Tissue
 Smooth Muscle Tissue – Involuntary muscle that causes
movements in the body.
 EX: Your esophagus pushes food down to stomach
 Other smooth muscle in your blood cells circulates blood.
Cardiac Muscle
 Involuntary muscle only on the heart.
 Through out your life, the cardiac muscle will pump blood to
circulate through the body.
