North American Eagle
• Draw four simple diagrams of the car.
• Leave enough space to draw force arrows
around the car.
• The arrows can show the size and direction
of the force.
• Show the forces acting on the car in these
four different situations.
– Stationary
– Speeding up
– Steady speed
– Slowing down
Balanced and Unbalanced Forces
Balanced forces means that forces in
opposite directions are the same size.
Unbalanced forces means that forces in
opposite directions are not the same size.
A resultant force acts in the direction of
the bigger force.

Balanced and Unbalanced Forces
Balanced forces on an object will keep
it moving at the same speed and
direction.
Unbalanced forces on an object
means its speed will increase in the
direction of the resultant force.
Acceleration
You only get an acceleration when
there is a resultant force.
This means the forces must be
unbalanced.
Stationary or Steady Speed
Forces are balanced.
