Jacqulyn Parsons •An atom is considered the building blocks of matter. • Atoms are composed of three types of particles; Protons Neutrons Electrons • Protons and Neutrons are responsible for most of the Atomic Mass. • Both Protons and Neutrons reside inside the nucleus. • The Atomic Mass is determined by adding the number of Protons and Neutrons together. # of Protons + # of Neutrons • Protons have a positive charge. (+) • Neutrons have no charge or is said to be neutral. (0) • Electrons reside in orbitals around the nucleus and have a negative charge. (-) • The number of Protons determine the number of Electrons.
