Course Description:
The World History course is designed to give students an understanding of the history of humanity. The major
emphasis is on the study of significant people, events, and issues from the earliest times to the present.
Traditional historical points of reference in world history are identified as students analyze important events and
issues in civilizations of the world. Students examine the impact of geographic factors on major historic events
and identify the historic origins of contemporary economic systems. Students analyze the process by which
constitutional governments evolved as well as the ideas from historic documents that influenced that process.
Students trace the historical development of important legal and political concepts. Students examine the history
and impact of major religious and philosophical traditions. Students analyze the connections between major
developments in science and technology and the growth of industrial economies, and they use the process of
historical inquiry to research, interpret, and use multiple sources of evidence.
General objectives:
The course is equivalent to an introductory college course. As such, the student is held accountable for a
greater portion of material and evaluated with a higher level of expectation than in the regular course. We issue
the state adopted textbooks as a foundation for the course. These will be heavily supplemented with readings
from college level sources. The course demands the use of higher order thinking skills to master the
overarching themes and the habits of the mind as stated in the AP World History Course Description. Students
are admitted to the course on the basis of teacher recommendations and previous academic performance.
Course Overview:
Course objectives include:
 Mastering the content.
 Seeing global patterns over time and space.
 Developing an awareness and appreciation of the commonalities and differences of human experiences
over time and space.
 Constructing and evaluating arguments, both oral and written.
 Using historic data, either primary or secondary, in an analytical fashion.
 Developing sophisticated research and writing methods.
Skills objectives:
 The course stresses the eight habits of the mind as set out in the AP World History Course Description.
 The course is designed to help students:
1. think critically and analytically
2. write persuasively
3. discuss articulately

Class Supply List:
As this is considered a college course, the student will be responsible for purchasing their textbook and supplies.
Additional sources will be provided by the teacher.

Homework and Testing:
Homework days: Readings and other assignments must be completed everyday
Testing days: Tuesdays
Retesting will take place upon student failure on a major assessment administered during a six weeks grading period. Six
Weeks Tests and Semester Exams do not qualify for retesting. Retesting must occur within (10) days and may raise
the score only to a maximum of (70).
Grading Policy:
Every 6 weeks requirements:
6 Daily works grades = 50%
6 Test grades = 50%

Make-Up Work:
When a student is absent, he/she must make arrangements for make-up work on the day they return to school. The
teacher and student can decide when the work is due.
Late Work:
If the student does not turn in an assignment on the date it is due, he/she will have 1 opportunity to turn it in on the next
day.
Retesting:
The student is allowed to retest all assignments designated as a TEST; however, this does not include semester exams or
quizzes. The parent or guardian of the student must make arrangements to meet the teacher in person before a retest will
be administered.
Cheating:
Cheating is interpreted as a procedure which involves the unauthorized giving or receiving help, offering or seeking aid,
or the use of material prepared in advance for use on an assessment. Cheating also involves books, notes or technology in
any form being used during an examination without the permission of the teacher. The penalty is a zero (0) on that work,
and a failure for the semester (which will be recorded as a zero (0) in the teacher’s grade book) if cheating occurs a second
time during the same semester.
