Romeo and Juliet
Act V
Act V, Scene 1: A street in Mantua
 Balthasar,
Romeo’s servant, comes
from Verona to tell Romeo that Juliet
is dead.
 Romeo believes the message because
he has not received any word from
the Friar.
 He decides to buy some poison and
return to Verona to die next to Juliet.
Act V, Scene 2: Friar Laurence’s cell
 Friar
John arrives saying he was
unable to deliver the letter to
Romeo.
 The Friar goes to hide Juliet in his
room until Romeo comes to take
her away.
Act V, Scene 3: Capulet’s tomb
 Paris
arrives to put flowers on Juliet’s
grave.
 At the same time, Romeo arrives and
Paris hides.
 Paris challenges Romeo to a duel
because he thinks Romeo is going to
harm the bodies.
 Romeo
kills Paris. Then he drinks
poison and dies.
 Juliet wakes up and she and the Friar
find the bodies.
 Juliet kills herself with Romeo’s
dagger.
 The Prince, Capulets, and Lord
Montague arrive.

Capulet and Montague end their feud and
promise to build gold statues honoring
Romeo and Juliet.
**At the end of the play there are six dead
bodies.
**Four people dead for this act.
