Natural Resources
• Natural resources: a material that comes from the
earth and has value.
Example: oil, diamonds, wood, copper, fish
Economic Activity: what a country does or makes to
make money.
***The economic activity of a country uses its natural
resources***
• Example: A natural resource of Chile is
COPPER. Copper is found in mines in Chile.
• Example: A natural resource of Chile is FISH.
Chile sells fish to other countries to make
money.
• Fruit is a natural resource of Chile. You can
buy Chilean fruit in the United States.
• Cotton is a natural resource of the United
States. The United States uses cotton to make
clothing.
• Examples of natural resources:
Food (fruit, fish, chocolate, coffee, tobacco)
Minerals (diamonds, copper, iron, gold)
• Natural resources cause TRADE, WAR, CONQUEST
• The European explorers came to find GOLD
• Africa is so poor now because people from other
continents came and took all of the minerals
(diamonds and gold)
• Saudi Arabia and the Middle East are RICH
because they have OIL
