WHAT IS MENTORING?
Mentoring is the pairing of two individuals
with the purpose of achieving mutually
agreed on goals.
It is a partnership in which both individuals
share in a growth process and the
personal development of one another.
WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?
• Mentoring relationships are about
development, growth and empowerment.
• Mentoring has motivational value for both
the mentor and the mentee.
• Mentoring is protected relationship in
which learning can occur without
judgment.
• Mentoring connections arise from shared
experiences.
THE TREND TOWARD
MENTORING
According to a 2005 study conducted by MENTOR
• 3 million adults have a one-on-one
mentoring relationship with someone
• 96% would recommend it to others
• Average mentoring relationship lasts 9
months, 38% last one year

HISTORY OF MENTORING
• According to Greek mythology, Odysseus
appointed his friend, Mentor, to be a
surrogate father to his son when left for
the siege of Troy.
• Through this relationship, his son learned
skills, culture, and values that prepared
him for manhood.
• Just as Mentor served as a teacher, role
model, and advisor, so do current day
mentors!
