Convoy System
By: Ashley and Robbie
During World
War 1,
German
Submarines
sank many
Allied ships
that were
carrying
food,
supplies,
and
weapons. In
May 1917
they decided
to create the
convoy
system to try
and end it.
A Convoy consisted of a group of unarmed ships surrounded by a ring
of destroyers, torpedo boats, and other armed naval vessels equipped
with hydrophones to track and destroy submarines
The result of
the Convoy
system was
there were a
rapid
decrease in
German
attacks on
the Allies
during the
last 17
months of
the war.
The convoy system was very successful in carrying American troops to Europe.
Despite the scares, U-boats didn’t sink a single United States troopship
traveling To Europe.
