Cass Brayton, aka Sister Mary Media, was an original member of the Sisters of
Indulgence, San Francisco's radical drag street theater/political/spiritual/charitable
troupe. His play I’d Like to Buy a Vowel was part of The Best of PlayGround 2003.
His play Bodhisattva by Lagoon will be published by Dramatic Publishing in 35 in
10: Thirty-Five Ten-Minute Plays. It premiered in Actors Theatre of Santa Rosa's
2004 Quickies Festival. He is a founding member of Rumpus.

Sharon Eberhardt’s plays include Becca and Heidi, produced by The Shee Theatre
in San Francisco and Spacegrrls, produced by And How! in New York. Her oneacts appeared at Bay Area One-Acts, Youngblood at Ensemble Studio Theater, And
How!, New Georges, adobe theater and Moving Arts. She has an MFA from
Columbia University.
Kristina Goodnight is thrilled to be participating in PlayGround this year. Her
plays The Bandersnatch and Letterophilia were previously produced in The Best of
PlayGround, and she is also the recipient of PlayGround's June Anne Baker Prize,
through which she was commissioned to write The Eve Generation. Kristina
received her MFA in Playwriting from Saint Mary's College, and her BA in Dramatic
Art and English at UC Davis. She currently works as a high school English teacher
in Sacramento, and writes plays in the middle of the night.
Vince Montague is a graduate of The Writing Program at New York University. His
fiction has been published in The Florida Review, Nimrod: An International Journal,
The Green Mountains Review, and many other literary journals. He is a recipient of
the Nimrod/Hardmon Katherine Anne Porter Prize in Fiction. His other awards
include special citations from Writer's Digest, Zoetrope, and a scholarship to The
Squaw Valley Writer's Conference. His short stories have also appeared in Other
Voices, The River Styx, The Bridge, The Santa Barbara Review, and The Nebraska
Review.
Maria Rokas lives and works in San Francisco. She has a degree in film from
SFSU. Her short plays have been produced in San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Santa
Rosa. She was the recipient of PlayGround’s 2004 June Anne Baker Prize. Her play
Warning Signs will be produced by Unidentified Theatre Company as part of BOA’s
2005 festival in February. A monologue from Ho Ho Hell (PlayGround 2002) will be
published by Smith and Krauss in winter 2005. She was profiled in the November
edition of Theatre Bay Area magazine.
Alina Trowbridge studied fiction writing at San Francisco State University.
Chapters of her novel in progress, Tom All Alone’s Revenge, appeared in Oakland’s
homeless newspaper, Street Spirit. She was seduced into theater while writing and
performing in amateur musicals with friends and has written book and lyrics for an
adaptation of Chaucer’s Franklin’s Tale with Christopher Frechette. She took her
first playwriting workshops in early 2004 through the Playwrights’ Center of San
Francisco, where her play Seismic Surprises Enliven Our Lives had a staged reading
earlier this month.

tonight represent some of the Bay Area’s best and brightest talent. Here what’s
going on…
JoAnne Winter is the co-Artistic Director of Word for Word, and is currently actor,
director and manager of their school tour…Aaron Junior Turner is rehearsing the
African American Shakespeare Company’s world premiere, Beast…Both Liam
Vincent and Kevin Rolston performed in the SF Playhouse production of The
Violet Hour…Julia McNeal and Kerri Shawn can currently be seen in Center REP’s
production of Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke…Kenna Hunt appeared in
The Boyfriend at Playhouse West earlier this year…Joan Mankin closed Beggar’s
Holiday at Marin Theatre Company and will begin rehearsals at ACT for The
Gamester in December…Phoebe Moyer completed a successful run of Major
Barbara at San Jose Rep…Having just moved here from Chicago, Eric Hayes has
been cast in Playhouse West’s upcoming production of String Fever…Mary Baird
teaches voice at ACT and recently played Mother Courage in Montpelier,
Vermont…Carl Thelin has been directing his documentary film based upon the
experiences of blues guitarist Carlos Guitaros…Cully Fredericksen toured France
with Word for Word, performing in one piece by Richard Ford and another by
Michael Chabon… Barbara Oliver’s acclaimed production of Aeschylus’ The
Persians just closed at the Aurora Theatre… Jessica Powell completed the run of
Joe Egg with Theatre First and will start rehearsing Noises Off for Theatre
Merced…Joy Carlin will be directing Dublin Carol at the Aurora Theatre…Danielle
Levin recently closed the Playhouse West production of Force of Nature and will be
reading another Sharon Eberhardt script next weekend at the SF Film and Theatre
Festival…Nancy Carlin directed The Nerd at Foothill Theatre Company and will
appear in ACT’s A Christmas Carol…Holli Hornlein just closed Veracruz at the Pear
Theatre and is about to direct a production of The Pirates of Penzance…Marie
Shell is currently rehearsing the female version of The Odd Couple at Pacific
Alliance Theatre in Rohnert Park.
PlayGround thanks all the artists for taking what is frequently their only night off to
participate in the Monday Night Series. We encourage the community to support
their work at other venues.
Playwriting Classes for Emerging Professionals
PlayGround has launched a series of playwriting classes for emerging
professionals, led by five-time PlayGround Emerging Playwright Award winner
Garret Jon Groenveld and other distinguished artists from the community. Writers
may sign up for individual or multiple classes as each is intended as a stand-alone
program.
December 6: LOOKING FOR DIRECTION?
Come join us for a stimulating evening of discussion on how directors look at new
work. Directors from several of the Bay Area's most influential theatre companies
visit PlayGround for a roundtable discussion of how new work is processed, from
development to production. We'll also examine how they approach directing new
work and their vision for the future of new Bay Area Theatre.
