SS 9- American Revolution Unit Lesson 3: Why did Quebec and Nova Scotia decide not to join the American Revolution? PURPOSE: To understand why the “Canadian” colonies did not join the American Revolution In 1775, the people of the Thirteen Colonies decided to fight a war against Britain in order to create an independent nation, the United States of America. This is known as The War of Independence, or The American Revolution. The people of the Thirteen Colonies thought that Quebec and Nova Scotia would join them in the revolution for three reasons: 1. Quebec had fought and lost against Britain in the Seven Years War only 15 years earlier. 2. The British taxes had also had a negative effect in Quebec and Nova Scotia. Find examples of this on page 96 and summarize them below using your own words. Quebec: Nova Scotia: 3. Most of the settlers in Nova Scotia had moved there from the Thirteen Colonies.
