Call for Papers ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology (ACM TIST) Special Issue on Intelligent Healthcare Informatics Healthcare Informatics is a research area dealing with the study and application of computer science and information and communication technology to face both theoretical/methodological and practical issues in healthcare, public health, and everyday wellness. Intelligent Healthcare Informatics may be defined as the specific area focusing on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) theories and techniques to offer important services (such as a component of complex systems) to allow integrated systems to perceive, reason, learn, and act intelligently in the healthcare arena. One of the many peculiarities of healthcare is that decision support systems need to be integrated with several heterogeneous systems supporting both collaborative work and process coordination and the management and analysis of huge amount of clinical and health data, to compose intelligent, process-aware health information systems. This ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology (ACM TIST) special issue seeks articles discussing fundamental principles, algorithms or applications for process-aware health information systems. This special issue will respond to the research challenges by encouraging researchers in the computing world to bring to bear novel techniques, combinations of tools, and so forth, to effectivelymanage and deal in an integrated way with healthcare processes and data. Topics of interest include but not limited to: Assistive and adaptive ubiquitous computing technologies for healthcare Biomarker discovery and biomedical data mining Biomedical modeling and simulation Collaboration technologies for healthcare Computational intelligence methodologies for healthcare Computer support for surgical intervention Computer-aided diagnosis Continuous monitoring and streaming technologies for healthcare Data analytics for clinical care Data integration for healthcare Disease profiling and personalized treatment E-communities, social networks, and social media for patients and caregivers Effective information retrieval for healthcare applications Healthcare knowledge abstraction, classification, and summarization Healthcare workflow management Intelligent medical data management Intelligent medical devices and sensors Intelligent systems for electronic health records Intelligent user-interfaces for medical devices and software Medical recommender systems Medical signal analysis and processing Optimization models for planning and recommending therapies Pharmacy informatics systems Predictive modeling for personalized treatment Semantic Web, linked data, ontology, and healthcare Systems for telemedicine Text mining for biomedical literature and clinical notes Visual analytics for healthcare Submissions On‐Line Submission (will be available around May 13, 2013 to accept submissions for the second issue): http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tist (please select “Special Issue: Intelligent Healthcare Informatics” as the manuscript type).Details of the journal and manuscript preparation are available on the website: http://tist.acm.org/ Important Dates Submission Deadline: November 20, 2013 October 20, 2013 September 30, 2013 Notification of First Review: January 13, 2014 Submission of Revised Manuscript: February 28, 2014 Notification of Final Acceptance: April 14, 2014 Final Manuscript Due: May 19, 2014 Guest Editors Carlo Combi (carlo.combi at univr.it) Universita' degliStudi di Verona, Italy Jiming Liu (jimingat comp.hkbu.edu.hk) Hong Kong Baptist University
