Geography Practice - The Nubian Kingdoms of Kush
Nubia is a geographical region that extends along the Nile valley south of Egypt.
It was located in that part of Africa which is now known as the Sudan. A variety of
kingdoms thrived in Nubia in different times and places.The Nubian kingdom of Kush reached
its greatest extent when it was based in Napata. It extended from the Mediterranean Sea in
the north to the Blue Nile in the south. Trade and goods traveled up and down the Nile River

during the period of the Kush kingdoms. After the defeat of Kush by the Assyrians, the
Kushite eventually kings retreated farther south along the Nile. They moved their capital to
Meroë. From this new base, they continued to prosper and develop their culture.
