What the mainline media are telling us about dentistry, although frightening, is only a small part of
the picture. The dreadful further information here provided about dentists and a subspecialty called
endodontics has been reliably reported and fully confirmed in scientific documents here cited. This
information is on the growing edge of knowledge in the field of medicine and health.
PART ONE. Root Canals.
Each year, specialized dentists who call themselves endodontists place about 24 million root
canals in Americans’ mouths. Their aim is to save a tooth that has become infected and dead, in
an attempt to make it functional and pain-free. Dentists say they assume this is wise and beneficial
for their patients. But Weston Price, DDS, learned back in the 1920s that dentist-installed root
canals cause focal infections throughout the body.i Infection can migrate from one part of the body
and settle in weakened areas creating the potential for chronic disease. The preeminent dental
research specialist of the day, Dr. Price noticed that nearly three-quarters of the people he saw
who had root canals were in poor health. After he removed their root canals, the health of nearly all
such patients improved, in many cases within a day or two. For example, a man who had been
hobbled by arthritis was soon able again to jog a mile.
Cooperating with the American Dental Association (ADA) and aided by 60 of the country’s finest
scientists and doctors,ii using superb microscopic technique, Price completed 25 years’ research.
He donated to the study half of his time and much of the equipment used. He wrote his findings in
220 scientific articles; these he republished in 1,174 pages, two volumes, in 1923. iii His work was
confirmed by Martin H. Fischer, MD, in Death by Dentistry, published in Baltimore in 1940 by
Charles C. Thomas.iv
The root canal industry ignores all the evidence here presented.
People hearing for the first time the truth on root canals often react in disbelief. “My mother has
had three root canals in her head for decades, yet her health is excellent.” Just be patient and read
on, if you will.
Proof. When Dr. Price placed under a rabbit’s skin a tiny amount of sterilized ground-up material
from a patient’s root canal, the animal soon developed whatever degenerative diseases were
afflicting that patient, and died in three to 10 days. It was likely to be heart, kidney or bladder
diseases, stomach ulcers, ovarian disease, phlebitis, osteomyelitis, arthritis, or lung problems. Dr.
Price repeated that test on 100 consecutive rabbits; every one of them died of the diseases
afflicting the patient whose root-canal material he had implanted into the animal.v Yet, a sterile coin
or material from a healthy tooth placed under a rabbit’s skin did no harm.

He found that about 30 percent of patients with root canals in their mouths remained healthy; this
he attributed to a strong immune system. But if subjected to unusually severe stress -- physical,
mental, or emotional -- even those people’s immunity could be compromised, resulting in crippling
degenerative diseases.vi
George E. Meinig, DDS, FAC, of Ojai, CA, confirmed Price’s findings in 1993 in his book Root
Canal Cover-up Exposed, vii the most complete source of information on root canals. Back in 1944
he had co-founded the Endodontists Association, and after that he placed thousands of root
canals. But observing his patients – seemingly a novel idea for endodontists1 -- and learning of Dr.
Price’s work, he abandoned the practice, then wrote his book. Dr. Hal Huggins is currently
replicating the tests using guinea pigs (which do not generate their own protective vitamin C)
instead of rabbits, and employing up-to-date techniques. He is fully confirming Drs. Price and
Meinig’s findings about focal infections.viii
______________________________________________________________________________
Dr. Meinig phoned me 2/13/03 after seeing a preliminary version of this paper. He said he is
working “18 hours a day” on his follow-up book; in it he will publicize at least five methods exploited
by conventional endodontists to “explain” why root canals can be safe and necessary.
______________________________________________________________________________
A focal infection has been defined as a sepsis arising from a focus of infection that initiates a
secondary infection in a nearby or distant tissue or organ. The origin of many toxic or metastatic
diseases may be traced to primary local, i.e. focal areas of infection.ix x xi My Webster’s defines
sepsis as a poisoned state caused by the absorption of pathogenic microorganisms and their
products into the bloodstream.
“Dentistry is the only one of all the medical and para-medical professions that thinks it
acceptable to keep dead, gangrenous tissue in the body. Not only is it OK, it is condoned
and paid for by health insurance. The way to do this is to perform root canal therapy called
andodontistry. Root canals are really like the taproot of a tree – one main root with literally
hundreds of branches coming off it and opening to the edge of the root all the way along its
length. It is impossible to treat these accessory canals. In just one tooth there is sufficient
space for billions of microorganisms.
“When only the root canals are treated, there remains a massive amount of gangrenous
tissue which is infected by anaerobic microorganisms [which thrive without any oxygen]. …
Because of the devitalizing and preservation procedures endodontists use, the tooth has become a
‘toxin factory’ by which the organism [the patient] will be continually damaged. Most dental
authorities claim that the body’s immune system will take care of what is left over. But [since there
is no supply of blood to the dead tooth,] the cells of the immune system cannot reach the infected
areas to do their work.”xii
Much besides infection itself is involved: an electrical transference through the body’s acupuncture
meridians. A scientist injected radioactive technetium 99m at one of the acupoints; his movie
camera showed the dye moved 12 inches in 4 to 6 minutes -- proving the meridians exist.xiii xiv This
network is separate from the arterial, venous and lymphatic systems. The acupuncture meridians
exploited by acupuncture practitioners connect each tooth to a particular organ of the body. The
It is common knowledge that many general surgeons speak of a patient as “that gall bladder in 235” or the like. I
suspect that some endodontists may refer to a root-canal patient in similar fashion.

wisdom tooth sockets are “wired” to the heart, the upper and lower bicuspids to the breast tissue,
and so on.xv This may interest women who are concerned about risk of breast cancer. Louisa
Williams, ND and Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, PhD mapped out these relationships.
Long-lasting disease states, which Jeffrey Bland, PhD, calls a homeostasis, i.e. a stable condition,
of ill health, often coincide with areas of the body that are on the same acupuncture meridians as
the primary focus. This has been verified by the work of Voll, who was a German physician and
electroacupuncturist. For example, we often find disease states in the reproductive system, kidney
and knees in relation to non-vital front teeth.
Examples: A man had begun to think unclearly. In a lower partial restoration the metal across the
middle of his face was hitting a spot associated with a part of his brain that deals with cognitive
awareness. His wife had a pain in her colon for 10 years. After an extraction of a molar tooth, the
tissue and bone were affected; after corrective surgery the pain disappeared. A woman with
fibromyalgia had a serious disturbance with tooth #30, which is connected to lungs and intestines.
The combination of a dying nerve, faulty crown materials and some decay in her mouth for the last
10 years created her symptoms.xvi
Cell wall deficient stealth pathogens
Antibiotics have a sinister side. Used long-term for whatever reason they promote development of
cell wall deficient bacteria. These are undetectable by ordinary tests. “Stealth pathogens” is
another term for them. The following is from Jeffrey Bland’s summary of a 90-minute tape. “Lida H.
Mattman, PhD’s book, the result of her career, describes morphology and physical properties of
cell wall-deficient forms of bacteria and fungi present in the body. Induced by continued exposure
to antibiotics, these “stealth” organisms have become pleomorphic and lack cell wall determinants
that would generate an immune system response, which would control proliferation. The organisms
may be found in all parts of the body, where they attack organs and tissues. They are capable of
passing through micropore water filtration systems, thereby contaminating water supplies. They
are suggested to be responsible for many conditions including septicemia, various
cardiomyopathies, urinary tract infection, meningitis, rheumatic fever, joint and bone disease,
Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and thrombi formation. Therapy involves use of strong antibiotics
to destroy the pathogens, followed by reinoculation with symbiotic bacteria.”xvii xviii
From Dr. Bland’s oral summary comes the following. Dr. Mattman is a professor emeritus, Dept. of
Biology at Wayne State Univ., Detroit, Michigan. The book contains beautiful electron micrographs
showing the pleomorphic organisms in their cell wall deficient state. Antibiotics in continued
exposure induce many of these forms. This induces the bacteria to go underground in pleomorphic
L-form bacteria that lack cell walls that are highly identifiable by the body, compounds changing
chimerically. They can travel as stealth pathogens, bypassing the body’s immunological
recognition system -- the immuno-chemical epitope -- and then serving in a proliferative fashion to
damage organs and tissues. Antibiotic administration continued over time increases the risk of
these forms. Long-term heavy consumption of meat products from animals given antibiotics at
subclinical doses to promote growth and fattening and to protect animals from infection through
unsanitary close quarters with other animals might also produce the effect; that isn’t known yet.
The book mentions possible thrombi formation by activating platelet reactivity, increasing risk to
urinary tract infection, relationship to meningitis and rheumatic fever, even joint and bone diseases,
recurring staphylococcal myelitis and fluorosing osteomyelitis, arthritis -- coming back again to our
infectious origination of rheumatoid arthritis. Even juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis and
4
ulcerative colitis could be associated with these cell wall deficient forms. And of course fungi that
are constantly exposed to antifungal agents such as Nystatin may undergo reversion as well to cell
wall deficient forms of a fungal origin. Might long-term Nystatin therapy cause the Candida to go
underground or elusive in terms of the body’s own defense? The book raises some very serious
questions about how we are now treating infectious diseases.
Here’s why root canals increase risk of ill health. “A root canal is an embalmed dead organ; the
immune system does not recognize it as a part of the body and tries to get rid of it. No root canal is
ever free of bacteria and its toxins, causing the immune system to expend extra energy to maintain
wellness. For those with already weak immune systems -- compromised by poor nutrition, illness,
accident, extreme stress, or death of loved ones -- this can be serious.”xix
The techniques, most of the materials, and some of the instruments that were used 70 years ago
are identical to those used today. The medicaments used to “sterilize” teeth then are still being
used today: camphor, phenol, formaldehyde, and menthol. Formaldehyde, a known carcinogen -there is no known threshold level below which cancer risk does not exist -- can spread throughout
the victim’s body, creating and supporting new cancers.xx Many other disease states relate to such
dead teeth. The most common is head and neck pain, ranging from mild to migraine to trigeminal
neuralgia.xxi xxii Sinusitis is very often associated with root canal therapy, especially if the treated
teeth are in the upper arch. Price found that most patients with nonvital teeth had some thyroid
dysfunction. Weakened immune function is common. Eye and ear problems, rheumatic and
arthritic changes, heart problems, nervous disorders, and multiple sclerosis have been linked to
the toxins and organisms from dead teeth. “The one thing that is certain is that if you are sick you
should look very carefully at all nonvital teeth, whether root therapied or not.” 12
The root canal material shrinks by as much as two percent, leaving room for infection to build up.
Bacteria, particularly Streptococcus fecalis, get under the root canal (Dr. Price and Dr. Meinig
never found an exception); and X-rays detect no trace of a problem until one-third to one-half of
the bone is destroyed. Nor do antibiotics kill these bacteria, xxiii which become anaerobic, i.e., they
survive and prosper without oxygen. And since there is no blood supply to the tooth, antibiotics
cannot reach them. 12 “Hermetically sealed inside the literally three milesxxiv of microscopic dentin
tubules in a single dead tooth, they have nowhere to go except down, deeper into the body where
they can cause a variety of degenerative diseases. They can also produce behavioral and lifethreatening symptoms.”xxv
Polymorphic (possessing many forms), they mutate into more virulent configurations, metastasize
(travel) to other parts of the body, adapt to a smaller supply of nutriments, shrink, produce toxins
more lethal than the bacteria themselves, and cause degenerative diseases. They consume
tissues, turning them into garbage. In some cases, terrible neuralgic pain results. To this day, no
one has studied these bacteria in depth; but Dr. Price successfully treated many such patients
whom physicians had given up as hopeless. Other organisms such as yeast, fungi and cell-walldeficient forms also inhabit this tissue.xxvi
“Patrick Stortebecker and others have demonstrated the transport of all materials, microorganisms
and their toxins directly from the tooth to the brain via the blood and by transport along nerve
fibers. Many other research articles have shown that whatever you put in a tooth can be
transported to the rest of the body.” Research also demonstrates the presence of Tumor
Necrotizing Factor at the end in the apical area of infected roots. Tumor Necrotizing Factor is
capable of causing: Chronic wasting syndrome, Anorexia & weight loss, Bone resorption (by its
osteoclasts activating potential), and inflammatory disease states. The bacteria at the focus may
5
undergo autolysis, i.e. dissolution. Some of the products of this dissolution, diffusing into the blood
or lymph, may sensitize in an allergic sense various tissues of the body. A later diffusion of these
products on reaching the sensitized tissue may call forth an allergic reaction.”xxvii
The bacteria can harbor infections, which are inevitably clot-laden (see Part Two),xxviii without any
symptom. But more often they attack an organ or tissue that is already weakened. This focal
infection theory, first proposed some 80 years ago by Dr. Frank Billings, is now almost universally
accepted -- except by root canal therapists, called endodontists. Although dentists deny the theory,
by their actions they accept it. In a test, as many as 20 percent of dental patients developed
endocarditis [inflammation of the innermost tunic of the heart] after mere cleaning of their teeth. A
perfect example of focal infection! This is why before dental surgery they use antibiotics. xxix
Dr. Billings estimated that 98 percent of ALL infections come from either the teeth or the tonsils.
However, cellular biologist Bruce H. Lipton, PhD, confirmed that the tonsils do not spread infection;
they are instead a part of the body’s protective immune system.xxx And so, for doctors to routinely
remove tonsils is unwise as well as unnecessary. The teeth are then the source of most infections;
some place the percentage at 80 or above. There is ample further published evidence of focal
infections in any part of the body resulting from root canals.
Compounding problems, endodontists try to seal the canal with a substance called gutta percha,
which contains the toxic heavy metals barium, mercury and lead. “This they put into a nerve that is
directly connected to the brain. They heat up the gutta percha and it expands. In a month or two, it
contracts; so now there’s an air space for the aerobic, oxygen breathing, organisms trapped in the
canal to grow and breed.
“They are now sealed in this tube; and when they adapt by becoming anaerobic, they produce thiol
ether, one of the most toxic substances known, which spends our glutathione. Glutathione, this
powerful antioxidant -- is our chief detoxifier and anti-cancer defense.” (“But be careful how much
glutathione because if your second detox pathway is slow you could get worse symptoms. I got
migraines from too much of it in an IV,” wrote Judith Stringer, a Portland, OR patient
[email protected].)
That thiol ether, forced from aerobic to anaerobic status while trapped inside a root canal using up
our glutathione stores and threatening our very survival from cancer, is itself also a very powerful
inducer and promoter of cancer.
Root canals, vaccinations, and cancer.


One study showed 92 percent of all cancer patients had two or more root canals.”xxxi
And among a large number of cancer patients seen by a London cancer specialist over a
long period of time, every single one had been subjected to routine, mercury-laden
vaccinations. The mercury comes as Thimerosal, a registered pesticide with 48 percent
mercury.xxxii xxxiii xxxiv xxxv xxxvi Moreover, this cancer specialist declared he had never seen a
cancer patient who had forgone these “immunizations.”xxxvii xxxviii
In one case the dental surgeon was reluctant to wield his knife but the patient insisted. When he
opened up an infected wisdom-tooth socket, his first comment was, “My God!” And after he dug out
the infected bone, got rid of the cavitation (hole in the bone below) and sterilized the region, the
patient’s atrial fibrillation (irregular heart rhythm) stopped. This benefit, although reported by many
others, dos not happen in all cases of atrial fibrillation. But the goo that Debra Hopkins, DDS, of
6
Tacoma, WA showed me from one of my cavitations was black and about the consistency of diesel
fuel! My health will certainly be better without atherogenic, potentially carcinogenic clot-bearing
infection shooting out from those cavitations to random spots throughout my body for the rest of
my life.
_____________________________________________________________________________
“Cavitat® is a sonogram diagnostic device for detecting neuralgia-inducing cavitational
xxxixosteonecrosis (NICO) arising from implanted root canal teeth. The Cavitat® is renowned for its
diagnostic endodontic excellence among holistic, biological, mercury-free dentists such as those
who are members of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, the
Environmental Dental Association, the American Academy of Biological Dentistry, and the Holistic
Dental Association. Many enlightened dentists are members of these professional organizations “ xl
______________________________________________________________________________
Both of my root canals failed, and I had them removed. One in the lower jaw destroyed a total of
three teeth, requiring a $4,000 bridge (1990 dollars). The other one culminated in a lost tooth. The
common practice, decades ago, of extracting all of many elderly people’s teeth may have made
more sense than was common knowledge.
“So root canals look like a prescription for serious illness. The Stone Age methods of
dentistry for disinfection now involve the use of bleach -- whose molecular surface tension
produces a droplet too big to fit into a microtubule. Study showed these bleach disinfectants
were only about 30 percent effective; it became obvious that we needed another method for
disinfection.
“Further, the toxins generated by the root canal can combine with mercury leached and
inhaled from the amalgams, and create new chemicals of much higher toxicity. The
commonest is methylmercury, the organic form, which is 100 times more toxic than
inorganic mercury. There is no safe level of this toxin in the human body, which easily
crosses the so-called blood-brain barrier.”xli
Methylmercury can cause birth defects. 25 And these toxins delayed neurological development at
age seven in children whose mothers had been exposed to methylmercury during pregnancy –
probably from having amalgam fillings placed or removed without adequate safety precautions in
the dental office. Language, attention and memory were most harmed; less affected were
visuospatial and motor functions.xlii Existence of an ongoing infection anywhere in a pregnant
woman’s body worsens risk of giving birth to an infection-ridden and hence SIDS-susceptible baby,
or for the father the risk of producing sick sperm.
“Some of these toxin combinations can be more potent than Clostridium botulinum, which causes
deadly botulism poisoning. Any time you bite down, you are potentially squirting a few molecules of
dental poisons into your bloodstream -- and often,” Dr. Huggins writes, “it takes only a few
molecules to create a serious problem.” 25
When serious health problems result from a root canal, the only known way to eliminate the
source of such infections is extraction of the root-canal tooth. See below for precautions
required in the dental office.
And if no serious health problem follows retention of an installed root canal, can one feel safe? Dr.
Price, remember, found: that a patient whose immune system is unusually strong may resist the
7
infectious agents from root canals. But after a terrible stress of any kind such a person’s health will
descend into dreadful degenerative disease. That’s not a chance a knowledgeable, thinking person
would willingly take. 5
Dentists’ high-speed drills appear to kill most of the teeth that eventually “need” a root canal. A gel
developed in Sweden painlessly dissolves decayed matter in cavities and could replace the drill in
many cases of tooth decay.xliii
To avoid probable worsened health, root-canalled teeth must be removed while the patient
breathes pure oxygen or purified room air, in precisely the right manner. “The dentist has to
remove the periodontal ligament directly under the dead tooth. You use a dental burr to remove a
millimeter of the jawbone because it is invariably contaminated with bacteria. This procedure takes
only two minutes and is essential for removing all sources of oral toxicity from the root canal, yet it
is not taught in dental school [emphasis in the original text]. … When you take the tooth out, if
you’re not careful, these bacteria will enter the bloodstream and lodge anywhere in the body,
although the heart valve and liver are favorite destinations. That’s why we give intravenous vitamin
C during dental work; we also keep antibiotics on hand, just in case,” writes Dr. Huggins. 23
After the canalled teeth are taken out, two problems remain: (1) getting rid of these clot-bearing
focal infections and (2) clearing accumulated mercury and other toxic heavy metals from the body.
This will require professional assistance; alternative or integrative practitioners are the most likely
to succeed at that without causing harmful side effects. Chelating agents that help with
detoxification of body mercury include coriander plant extract under the name cilantro, taken daily,
which appeared in a test to remove all mercury in two to three weeks. xliv xlv Cilantro is one of the
Brassica, cruciferous family of vegetables, which “contain God-given phytochemicals that rev up
both phase 1 and phase II of detoxification,” writes Dr. Rogers in Detoxify or Die, page 69. 56
Others are wheat or barley grass, Green Kamut, charcoal; and selenium-containing substances
such as glutathione, garlic and cysteine. Vitamin C serves to mobilize mercury: it frees mercury
from its bound state within cells so that mobile Hg can reach the blood, go to the liver, kidneys or
skin and be excreted. This action complements that of chelators, which combine with Mercury
molecules and prevent their rebinding with Hg at another location.xlvi See also Part 2.
PART TWO: MERCURY and other toxic dental metals. Part One dealt with one major topic; Part
Two divides into many topics. Dr. Sherry Rogers provides in depth analysis and numerous
references. Detoxify or Die, Chapter 3, pages 104-148.
“Silver” dental amalgams are in fact 50 percent mercury, a waste product of nuclear generation.
Mercury is one of the world’s most poisonous substances. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
regulations classify it as toxic; and amalgams are a hazardous substance under the Superfund
law. If the amount of mercury in one average sized amalgam were released into a 10-acre lake,
that lake would be declared unsafe for fishing. The average American’s mouth contains ten
mercury amalgams.xlvii Mercury directly enters cells, escaping blood detection.xlviii
How widespread is this threat? Armand V. De Felice, DDS, of Spokane, Washington surveyed 26
consecutive patients before and after removal of all mercury amalgams. Two had few symptoms (5
each) before amalgam removal; all the others reported fewer symptoms after removal of amalgams
than before. The most common were unexplained irritability, depression, numbness and tingling of
extremities, frequent urination at night, chronic fatigue, cold hands and feet, bloated feeling,
weakening memory, sudden, unexplained or unsolicited anger, constipation, difficulty making
8
decisions, tremors and twitching. More than half of the 26 patients reported all of those symptoms
before amalgam removal; the average decrease in number of symptoms afterward was 49.5
percent.xlix
Similarly, among 100 healthy patients in Denmark, 255 total symptoms were reported before
mercury removal; afterward, 38% of symptoms had been eliminated and 50% more were
improved.l Obviously, each of these symptoms can result entirely or in part from other causes; in
those cases, amalgam removal might or might not alleviate them.
John Kline, MD, BSc, CCEP, an FDA trained expert in mercury toxicity says, “It has been
established that more than 125 symptoms may follow chronic mercury exposure from amalgam
fillings. It is therefore easy to see why the diagnosis of mercury toxicity is extremely difficult to
make, due to the wide variations in clinical symptoms as well as the insidious nature of this
affliction. Most physicians do not consider this diagnosis when examining patients, and very few
have any understanding of the nature of heavy metal toxicity.” li
Dr. Huggins tested 700 randomly selected people at a nearby university for toxic reactions to
amalgam materials: mercury, 90.3%; copper, 87.5%; tin 56.2%; silver 45.2%; zinc 83.1%,
suggesting reactivity to dental materials is hardly scarce. 33
In a double blind test of 3,500 persons, Dr. Huggins -- who has an MS in immunology with
emphasis on toxicology, as well as his DDS -- found such reactions, many of them extremely
severe, in 89 percent of those he tested. He has set up a laboratory to perform numerous blood
lii
and immunological tests so as to identify patients who are mercury sensitive. Copper amalgam
yielded the most intense cytotoxicity of them all; high-copper amalgams release mercury 50 times
liii
faster than conventional amalgams. They are called "state of the art"; avoid them. In a way, he
wrote, dentists are getting rich on the mistakes of others.
The mercury from fillings leaches out; so you swallow that and constantly inhale the vapor
averaging, altogether, a total of 10 micrograms (millionths of a gram) per day from a single
amalgam filling. A video broadcast on British television about 1994 showed a cloud of mercury
vapor exhaled by a person whose mouth contains amalgam fillings. Under “black light” condition it
was clearly visible. While chewing, the cloud showed as much more dense than at other times.
After ten years the average amalgam has lost half the mercury with which it started. liv “Mercury
from fillings likes to cling to the oxygen-carrying sites of hemoglobin. The result is that you carry
lots of mercury in your blood but not enough oxygen.”lv And at the same time, mercury vapor
released from dental amalgams will migrate through the palate and the nasal linings to pass
directly into the brain. It amounts to an injection of mercury right into the brain. 12 lvi Mercury's halflife in the brain is 27 yearslvii; after 54 years, one-quarter of it remains, after 81 years one-eighth.
Other nasties get into the brain as a result of root canal therapy; see Part 1.
Eventually a personal threshold level can be exceeded, producing a variety of symptoms including
multiple sclerosis, leukemia, chronic fatigue syndrome/fibromyalgia and much more. Some people,
surprisingly, are up to one million times more sensitive to mercury toxicity than some others. lviii
“Mercury toxicity can create any baffling neurological disease, as well as impair cure for any
disease of other body systems.”lix
_____________________________________________________________________________
9
Dentists, some of whom have “mercurial” tempers, scored much worse than controls on tests of
memory, concentration and in motor skills and have a high suicide rate. They not only swallow and
inhale mercury from their own amalgams, they also inhale vapors from that which they put into
their patients’ mouths. In a test their hands shook (from mercury neuropathy?)lx lxi -- not a
comforting thought for a patient whose teeth are to be drilled. Wasn’t that called “mad hatter
disease” in Alice in Wonderland?
______________________________________________________________________________
Dentist Peter Lawson at University of Surrey, England, found that mercury toxins cross the
placenta into the umbilical cord, increasing the concentration in a fetus to 40 percent higher than
that in the mother’s body. This mercury increases antibiotic resistance of any disease organisms in
a baby’s or an adult’s body.lxii And periodontal (gum) disease, characterized by such organisms, is
a statically significant risk factor for preterm low birth weight.—which have increased steadily with
no end in sight for the rising trend.lxiii The adjusted odds ratio is 7.9: risk of preterm low birthweight
birth is nearly eight times higher than in women lacking such infections.lxiv Existence of an ongoing
infection anywhere in a pregnant woman’s body also worsens risk of giving birth to an infectionridden and hence SIDS-susceptible baby, or for the father the risk of producing sick sperm. lxv
According to a 2001 U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study, one in ten American
women of childbearing age is at risk for hiving a baby born with neurologic problems due to
mercury exposure. That means 375,000 babies a year. And this does not count the kids with subtle
undiagnosed problems like intellectual levels inferior to their parents’ I.Q.lxvi
California recently began to require dental offices to post warnings on mercury use in dentistry; the
notice also cautions against root canal treatments and restorations. Enforcement of the judgment
followed a series of class-action lawsuits that charge mercury fillings in a woman’s mouth
contributed to autism of her child, and others charging the American Dental Association with
misrepresenting amalgam dental fillings as “silver.” The judgment upheld enforcement of
Proposition 65, which requires prior notification to patients of their exposure to a chemical known
to cause cancer or reproductive harm.lxvii Arizona, Maine, and New Hampshire now have mercury
disclosure laws.lxviii Earlier, Sweden outlawed mercury amalgams for children and pregnant
women; Sweden phased them out for everyone else in 1997. In 1992, Japan was considering a
ban on all dental mercury.lxix
In the body, mercury releases free radicals, which reach the nervous system and easily cross the
so-called blood/brain barrier.lxx lxxi A free radical is an atom or atom group carrying an unpaired
electron in its outer ring; as a result, free radicals are unbalanced and highly reactive. They dart
about the body damaging cells; and any molecule they meet, in turn becomes a free radical, lxxii
potentially starting a chain reaction that could damage tissues. Other free radicals reach our
bodies through toxins in the air, water, and food, or are generated inside us as part of our
defensive response to infection or other stress. In excess, they promote diseases of all kinds and
aging.lxxiii lxxiv An antioxidant molecule donates an electron so as to quench a free radical and
assists in redox, i.e. the balancing of reduction and oxidation processes in the body.
Mercury damages any body tissue and can cause almost any disorder known to man. lxxv Most
reactions to dental metals are not allergic but are mediated largely by IgG and IgM
immunoglobulins, in contrast to the IgEs found in standard allergic reactions.lxxvi Mercury comes
also from vaccines, lxxvii lxxviii 35 from Preparation H and Dristan nasal spraylxxix (for 35 years, I
unwittingly sprayed this poison into my lungs every night until daily cod liver oil dispatched my
10
troublelxxx).
contraception,lxxxi
sinus
And mercury is found in vaginal foams and gels used for
for
women to squirt up inside the most delicate parts of their bodies to poison future generations.
Mercury is associated in nature with antioxidant sulfur in the mineral cinnabar. And in the body it
seeks sulfur-rich red blood cells, cholinergic receptors in cardiac muscle and in the mitotic (cell72
division) spindle of the cell, the seat of genetic reproduction. With aluminum, mercury binds to
sulfhydryl (sulfur-containing) groups of glutathione, which are necessary for body detoxification.
2
And it inhibits the enzyme aldehyde reductase, as well as glutathione, PAPA, and cysteine 58
By binding and inactivating liver-detoxification enzymes and conjugates, Mercury compromises
one's future ability to detoxify the 500 or more chemicals to which we all are exposed daily,
particularly inside buildings.lxxxii lxxxiii This can doom the patient to a miserable existence: suffering
unlikely to be traced back to mercury as the source.
By lowering thyroid secretion, mercury promotes coagulation (clotting) and thrombosis
(catastrophic clotting) and hinders absorption of nutrients including heart protective vitamin B6 (in
three consecutive peer-reviewed trials, B6 lowered heart attacks by 73 percent, lxxxiv 68%,lxxxv and
72%lxxxvi). In these ways in addition to creating clot-laden infection, mercury raises homocysteine (a
cholesterol-independent risk factor for heart attacks). Mercury also elevates risk of strokes,
osteoporosis, cancer, birth defects, neurological diseases of age and much more.lxxxvii lxxxviii lxxxix
When the mercury in a “silver” amalgam is present in the mouth with palladium, the combination
causes the mercury in the filling to outgas 80 times faster than it normally would. Harm to the
immune system then is “absolutely devastating.” And dentists have begun to use composites
called “white stuff,” made with petroleum derivative resins and often with aluminum dioxide, which
is itself quite toxic.xc Toxicologists, who are unwisely excluded from contributing to medical
knowledge, say that toxic responses happen as fast as electrical responses in the body. xci
The glues or adhesives used to cement fillings and crowns in our teeth can produce a wide range
of symptoms from triggering a heart attack or sudden death, to malignant tumors and much more
They are made of acrylates, whose ingredients are cousins of plastics, formaldehyde,
trichloroethylene, toluene and other nasty environmental chemicals known for these very same
effects.xcii xciii But since there is not an abundance of suitable substitutes we need to be able to
more effectively detoxify these.xciv
Even Hepatitis C infections may come from routine dentistry. The way dental tools and the
machinery that drives the tools are sterilized may not prevent transmission of the highly infectious
virus between patients. Nearly 40 percent of patients with hepatitis C do not fall into any of the
accepted risk categories such as use of intravenous drugs. A substantial share, even most, of that
almost-40% may derive from dental practice. The infection can cause liver disease and cancer, as
well as initiating cardiac disease leading to heart attack, and is said to be 100 times more
infectious than HIV. 60

Cysteine is the core part of glutathione. Try a small amount initially, e.g. 0.5 gram of cysteine. After a time, the result
is a lot of mucus right after ingestion. This is enhanced by adding vitamin C. Raible H. Personal communication, 1995.
However, cysteine must be used only in moderation lest it become one of the excitotoxins decried by Russell L.

Back to heart attacks: In one study, hair mercury content was assessed in 1,014 men ages 42-60.
One of the strongest predictors of who would get arteriosclerosis over the next four years was who
had the highest hair mercury levels.xcv
The EPA fired whistle-blower, board-certified toxicologist William Marcus, Ph.D. in May 1992
because he publicly questioned and opposed EPA's policy -- which is to ignore the massive
contrary evidence and assure the public that dental mercury (as well as fluoride and other fertilizerplant wastes, and toxic chlorinexcvi dumped into drinking water) are harmless. Dr. Marcus had
committed the crime of publishing scientific evidence of toxicity of dental mercury (and of
fluoridation) from the EPA's own files. In a triumph of right over wrong this brilliant, public-spirited
man was restored to his job with back pay; and the four who conspired to rig a case against him
xcvii
were fired.
SIDEBAR: Any infection contains blood clots. Ninety percent of metastatic cancers and all
headaches are accompanied by clots, as are chest pains. Stress, fatigue, often edema, Candida
infections, meat and processed foods also promote formation of clots. xcviii Live-cell analysis using
dark-field (DF) microscopy easily detects blood clots. A drop of blood from the patient’s finger is
placed on a glass slide. A darkfield microscope projects the patient’s live blood onto a television
monitor before the patient’s eyes, and he or she takes home a printout.
Clots block passage of blood in critical places. “Ninety percent of strokes and heart attacks result
from clots.” And they hinder production of a substance formerly called platelet-derived growth
factor (PDRF), which is now known to be the small molecule nitric oxide (NO). Lack of enough NO
suppresses the immune system promoting spread of cancer and lowering the patient’s resistance
to all kinds of disease -- particularly coronary heart disease (CHD). xcix Clots cause 95 percent of
migraine headaches. Sugar diabetes and viral infections involve blood cells sticking together.
Stress causes release of adrenaline into the bloodstream, causing platelets to stick together
abnormally in clots. Smoking, alcohol and caffeine can promote clotting, as can dietary deficiencies
of niacin and magnesium. 28
Exposure to color television, computer monitors, etc. can cause red blood cells to clump together
in strings known as rouleaux. Potentially dangerous -- they could increase stroke risk and more -this can be both prevented and (if the condition is not too far advanced) cured by working under
full-spectrum light.c
Very economical DF, accompanied by hair mineral test analysis, obviates the need for many
expensive, profitable tests and replaces much of doctors’ well-paid-for decision-making. Lockstep
medicine conspired 28 ci to ignore dark field microscopy; they even tried to suppress this technique
by imprisoning Dr. Privitera, who has taught the technique to many others worldwide. The governor
of California pardoned him after thousands of patients, practitioners and researchers wrote to
Governor Brown in his behalf. Most physicians, laboratories and hospitals refuse to check for clots,
most of which are anyway undetectable by conventional methods. Gigantic needless suffering and
loss of life result. 28
______________________________________________________________________________
Further, mercury's hindrance to detoxification worsens risk of potentially fatal arrhythmia. By that
and other mechanisms, dental infections are a serious risk factor for coronary heart disease.
Bacteria associated with dental infections take part in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and
arterial thrombosis. cii ciii civ Individuals with severe dental infections have higher levels of von
12
Willebrand factor antigen, leukocytes and fibrinogen, and Streptococcus anguis has been shown to
aggregate human platelets (i.e. cause clotting) in vitro, at least in males.cv cvi
And by poisoning enzymes, cvii mercury may promote arthritis and other diseases affecting joints.
People afflicted with rheumatoid arthritis tend to have much clot-producing periodontal (gum)
disease, 72 and so are unusually susceptible to heart attack. Periodontal disease now afflicts 60
percent of Americans over 12 years of age and -- unknown to most dentists and physicians -forms infections throughout the body cviii see Part 1.
Gum disease places huge stress on the immune system. This usually ignored, long-lasting
condition constantly spews out endotoxins, i.e., waste material internally generated from destroyed
bacteria, which circulate throughout the body.cix Infections, always accompanied by clots,cx elevate
risk of heart attack. Supplements of coenzyme Q10 strongly combat periodontal disease and so
will resist heart attack by this mechanism as well as in several other ways. 28
And can it be more than coincidence that many diseases became known only after implantation of
amalgams began in 1833? Leukemia 1845; Addison's disease 1849; Banti's disease 1881;
Gaucher's disease 1882; anorexia nervosa 1888; Dercum's disease 1892; Van Jaksch's anemia
cxi
1890; sickle cell anemia 1910; chronic monocytic leukemia 1913 -- to mention only a few.
Often there is otherwise unexplained chronic fatigue. Dr. Huggins says over 90 percent of his
2,000 patients came to him with chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms and improved when mercury
fillings were removed. Mercury, he explains, interferes with the oxygen-carrying capability of
hemoglobin in red blood cells; in most of his patients, given an "oxyhemoglobin" test, the oxygen
transportability of the red blood cells is about half what it should be, appearing to explain chronic
cxii
tiredness at least in part.
A further, little-recognized source of chronic fatigue can be gluten
sensitivity.cxiii
Another common reaction to dental mercury is a rise in white blood cell count, sometimes to the
100,000 to 200,000 count range that is called leukemia. After removal of mercury, Hal Huggins,
DDS, MS, formerly in Colorado Springs, CO, has measured white cell drops of 60,000 points in 24
hours. He has also seen T-cell rises of 100% to 300%. 33 T-cells, which became famous in studies
of HIV (so-called human immunodeficiency virus) and AIDS, are important components of the
immune system. Abnormalities In white blood cell level resolve when the fillings are removed in the
correct electrical sequence.33
Physicians and dentists called this "spontaneous remission"; but in several cases that Huggins
cited, leukemia returned after experimental amalgam restoration, then again disappeared after final
removal.cxiv Several related diseases "spontaneously" remitted on the fourth or fifth day of his
treatment. Critics demanded replacement of amalgams to duplicate the diseases; but patients
unanimously told them they could "go to a warm place.” 33 My German patent attorney friend Hans
Raible told me his wife said she would use stronger language. She had suffered badly for years
after a dentist told her to swallow mercury residue from a filling.
In fact, clinical observation of acute leukemia of lymphatic type after immunological procedures led
to the hypothesis that leukemia is an abnormal or pathologically excessive response to an antigen
or prolonged antigenic stimulation which may be electively administered or may result from
environmental hazards. Defining environment broadly, that includes amalgams. The fact that
13
leukemia cannot be transmitted from person to person, even by blood transfusion, supports the
33
proposal.
Another is multiple sclerosis -- from which some patients rapidly recover after the mercury is
carefully removed. Two studies showed high mercury levels in MS patients; Mercury was 7.5 times
higher than in the control group without the disease. cxv cxvi And many patients sensitive to amalgam
report classic symptoms of MS: numbness and tingling in extremities, facial twitching, tremors or
shaking of hands and feet.cxvii Some MS patients came to Dr. Huggins on stretchers. After timeconsuming treatment and detoxification (see later) some such patients exchanged their stretchers
and wheel chairs for skis. In Great Britain, the highest incidence of MS is found in Northern Ireland
and the Scottish islands of Orkney and Shetland. Possibly because of excess dietary sugar or
deficiency such as in magnesium, the people who live in those places also have the highest
incidence of dental cavities and dental fillings.cxviii
ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig’s disease) also appears in patients with amalgams.
cxix
Some with ALS recovered immediately after amalgam removal; other ALS patients gradually get
better, Dr. Huggins has found.
Another mechanism: The respiratory alkalosis caused by habitual hyperventilation creates a
compensatory metabolic acidosis (diabetes, for instancecxx), promoting such degenerative
diseases as cancer, heart attacks and possibly ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).cxxi
The concentration of mercury is four times higher in autopsies of Alzheimer's brains than in
controls.cxxii No other trace element tested was significantly elevated, not even aluminum. And
Mercury is the only element that stimulates formation of the infamous neurofibrillary tangles in
Alzheimer's brains.cxxiii Patients well on the way to a full-blown AD diagnosis have improved
dramatically when their amalgam fillings were taken out and the mercury removed from the body
by a detoxification program following established protocol.cxxiv Interestingly, patients with early
Alzheimer's chew much less than most people. The release of mercury from their amalgams is
cxxv
consequently lower than usual by a factor of five.
Tom Warren, who said he had 20 cavitations (Part 1), recovered from Alzheimer's disease by
getting all the mercury out of his head and adopting a whole-food diet to enable his body to
recover. His book is titled Beating Alzheimer's;cxxvi others using his protocol have also recovered
from Alzheimer's disease; he knows of no failures among those who used his method to the
cxxvii
letter.
Further, body bacteria that developed after installation of “silver” amalgam fillings rapidly develop
cxxviii cxxix cxxx
resistance to antibiotics as well as to mercury.
Such bacteria, often acquired in
cxxxi
cxxxii
hospitals,
are also promoted by ingestion of nuclear residues;
by ingestion of "safe" levels
cxxxiii
of undetected antibiotic residues in milk;
of antibiotics in meat of animals given long-term
subtherapeutic levels of them; by long-term wide-spectrum antibiotics prescribed for symptoms
cxxxiv,cxxxv
caused by food allergies,
which can make as many as 20 kinds of disease organisms
cxxxvi
antibiotic-resistant; and by even a single contact with lawn chemicals.
And all such infections
cxxxvii
elevate risk of heart attack by raising clot-promoting fibrinogen.
Effects on mental development and behavior. Mike Marlowe, PhD, showed a variety of effects on
children’s mental development and behavior from mercury along with environmental lead, arsenic,
14
cadmium and
These metals hindered intellectual
and lowered
test scores for reading, spelling and visual-motor performance.cxli They produced neurological
signs, psychomotor retardation, and seizures.cxlii
aluminum.cxxxviii cxxxix
developmentcxl
Alexander Schauss, PhD, reported increased toxic element hair levels of lead, cadmium,
aluminum, mercury and/or arsenic and elevated copper levels in a sample of 85 behaviorally
disordered children in western Washington.cxliii Dr. Schauss’s later studies found that correction of
those micronutrient imbalances ended nearly all such problems. The correctional community,
pursuing its own agenda, stubbornly ignores this needed lesson. That’s understandable: adoption
of this as a new paradigm for behavior disorders would (a) require learning of a new, difficult
discipline, and (b) need far fewer employees.
In double-blind tests, William Walsh, PhD, found that “normal” kids, no surprise, had
minerals levels about normal; bad kids had widely differing levels. Those with very high or
very low copper divided into Types A and B. Type B is also high in iron, of which there is far
too much in the food chain and in processed foods. Iron overload also promotes yeast
infections, which is common in autistic children. Iron in the brain hinders people’s ability to
understand any of these problems, writes Hans Raible, Dipl.-Ing., of Stuttgart, Germany. Mr.
Raible is a published authority on iron toxicity.
“Type A is really nice until he blows up; has attention deficit disorder (ADD), learning
disability, often acne, often is left-handed. Experiences remorse. Type B is nasty all the
time, feels no remorse, and has an “antisocial personality.” cxliv
In an ominous finding, Dr. Yoshiaki Omura found that mercury, lead and aluminum stored in the
body shelter dangerous organisms including Chlamydia trachomatis, and viral-related problems
such as Herpes Simplex types I and II and Cytomegalovirus. He found that these organisms, which
are often seen in the coronary arteries of heart-attack victims, seemed to hide and flourish in areas
of the body where there were concentrations of those heavy metals. Somehow the organisms were
able to use the toxic metals to protect themselves from the antibiotics that Dr. Omura used against
such infections. The patients’ symptoms cleared up initially, then recurred within a few months.
See earlier comment on how dental practices increase risk of CHD. cxlv
Dr. Omura found that a soup made from the coriander plant, also known as Chinese parsley or
cilantro did two good deeds. (a) Used with antibiotics or natural antiviral agents and/or omega-3
essential fatty acids such as EPA and DHA from fish oils or flax, it eliminated the infections. (b) For
any patient whose body harbors stores of those heavy metals including mercury, the substance
serves as a powerful chelator (see below). 140
Dr. David Williams showed that using the fresh herb rather than a capsule provides the best
results, cxlvi and he offers a recipe for “Chelation Pesto”: (1) “1 clove garlic; (2) ½ cup almonds,
cashews or other nuts (3) 1 cup packed fresh cilantro leaves; (4) 2 tablespoons lemon juice; (5) 6
tablespoons olive oil. “Process the cilantro and olive oil in blender until the cilantro is chopped. Add
the rest of the ingredients and process to a lumpy paste. You can change the consistency by
altering the amount of olive oil and lemon juice, but keep the 3:1 ratio of oil to juice. (It freezes well,
so you can make several batches at once.)”
Chelation with EDTA (ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid) has been somewhat disappointing in
ridding the body of mercury. But a substance known as DMSA, which is injected intramuscularly or
intravenously or taken orally, has proven successful. It and DMPS have long been used and
15
U.S.cxlvii
researched abroad, later introduced to the
Five to seven injections seem to deplete
mercury from the tissues. Clearing mercury from bones is slower.
DMSA is exorbitantly expensive. The same substance, available without prescription, is Captomer250 by Thorne, available through N.E.E.D.S. (1-800-634-1380 www.needs.com). 56
If Mercury is removed too fast, severe temporary Mercury-toxicity symptoms including suicidal
cxlviii
thoughts can develop.
Mercury excretion can be economically promoted by cautious sweating,
induced in a sauna or by jogging. The sauna should use a lower temperature, e.g. 40-50o C (104122o F), so that one can sweat for 30 minutes and then wash off the dirt with good soap. The dryheat stress of sauna is an effective method of removing fat-stored toxins from the body. An infrared
sauna using extensive precautions and preparatory steps may be even far better.cxlix cl
Dr. Williams comments, “In light of the ever-worsening quality of our water and soil and the
widespread use of metals in everyday items like deodorant and cans, I would seriously suspect
that all of us have some toxic metals in our body. And unless carried out by a chelating agent,
things like lead, aluminum, and mercury remain in the body forever.cli
Dietrich Klinghardt MD, PhD, using muscle testing and other techniques in 2001 confirmed that
mercury in the thyroid produced my personal symptoms of subclinical hypothyroidism (subnormal
body temperature, etc.). I had all mercury removed from my teeth ten years ago, and had the root
canals and cavitations (see Part 1) excavated and cleansed 5 years ago. A crematorium a mile
from our house doesn’t help; a busy crematorium can pump 24 pounds of Mercury into the air each
day.clii This source of Hg may diminish ultimately as fewer dentists put mercury fillings into their
patients’ mouths. But the bodies of people now being cremated carry fillings installed, often,
decades earlier.
For me he suggested: (1) The universal antioxidant Alpha-lipoic acid, 150 mg 4 x/day. (2) Freezedried garlic, 3 capsules 3x/day (dissolve in water). (3) Chitosan (crab skeletons), 1 capsule 2 x/day
away from meals. (4) Selectrolytes, a minerals mixture shown to contain residues of 28 curative
herbs, cliii as well as electrolytes to enable heart function. I was to continue to take natural thyroid
tablets as needed. After a year symptoms had materially improved; I continue lower intakes for
maintenance, since the crematorium is still spewing out mercury.
_____________________________________________________________________________
Coconut oil, as much as two to four ounces a week (start slow and build the quantity), enables the
body to generate its own omega-3 and –6 essential fatty acids. Coconut oil also stimulates thyroid
function, cliv and it has wonderful antiseptic, bactericidal properties.clv It even cured some cases of
full-blown acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).clvi Raw coconuts are equally desirable.

Still further, touching metals in amalgams, with saliva as an electrolyte, create electric currents in
the mouth. These currents, measured on an ammeter that both dentist and patient can see, can be
1,000 times stronger than and disrupt natural electricity in brain and central nervous system clvii -from which they are only a few inches away. Known of in the mouth since 1880, electricity is
generated on the surfaces of single fillings, between two fillings that touch, and between the filling
and the dentinal fluid beneath it. When the dentist touches a filling, it discharges like a flash
camera; touched a few second later, the charge is much less; later still, almost zero. Each filling
discharges independently, implying that the charge had to be traveling down the tooth and into the
16
body, not from one filling to another. The rate of loss of mercury from a filling seems to be
proportional to the amount of electricity in it.clviii
On those galvanic currents in the mouth generated by amalgam fillings, "Research done as early
as the 1950s by Schriever, Diamond, Mumford, et al, demonstrated that it is the electromotive
forces released by the oral galvanic currents that propel ionized metallic particles from dental
restorations into the surrounding tissues. "Later on, Stortebecker demonstrated in his research that
not only metallic particles, but also microorganisms and toxins from a tooth can be propelled by
these galvanic currents -- first into the adjacent tissues, and then along the nerve pathways and
clix
lymphatic channels into the brain and other remote areas of the body."
Changes in heart function may be related to brain electricity changes rather than, or in addition to
clx
direct effects from the fillings to the heart muscle. The currents risk awakening slumbering
clxi clxii
herpesviruses, which further elevate risk of heart attack., ,

SIDEBAR: Fearing possible liability lawsuits if all or much of the above were proved in court, the
ADA reversed itself and now debunks the findings. They claim that “study after study” has proved
mercury fillings are safe; but a computerized literature search found no published evidence of even
one such test. Dentists who admit the facts here presented, who practice mercury-free dentistry
and treat sick teeth without use of root canals,3 soon become "social outcasts" in dental circles.
Some charge the ADA has placed a “gag rule” on dentists who have concerns. All this is much like
what happens to truth-speaking scientists who study cholesterol/heart attacks, the "War on
Cancer," drinking water fluoridation, clxiii clxiv clxv and in AIDS/HIV/AZT,clxvi clxvii among others.
A dentist may lie by telling you Dr. Price, Dr. Meinig and Dr. Huggins are wrong. Your dentist could
tell you this untruth for either of two reasons.
(1) He or she reads and believes only the propaganda from the American Dental
Association, that mercury amalgams and root canals are perfectly safe, choosing to be
unaware of the massive research literature. The ADA has never performed (or at least
hasn't published) any statistically sound research on mercury amalgams and root canals,
and shouts constantly that the cited studies are wrong. Symptoms that do not follow
clxviii
immediately in everyone, they implicitly assume,
cannot result from mercury. This is
another example of the Adolf Hitler-type "Big Lie." Keep telling the lie in an authoritative
manner and the public will believe. The association and its members could be subject to
enormous liability claims by admitting they've been poisoning the public for 150 years.
(2) Or your dentist may know the truth but realize that telling it could lead to loss of his or
her license to practice dentistry and the dreaded search for a new career. Like circling
vultures, the FDA (U.S. Food & Drug Administration) wanted to stop Dr. Huggins' advanced
studies and practices -- for they pose a competitive threat to conventional dentistry. To the
FDA, the financial interests of medical/dental professionals and the drug industry rank
ahead of the health of the public, which FDA is supposed to protect. But a member of Dr.
Huggins’ staff had worked for the EPA and learned the dishonest tricks used by government
3
Debra Hopkins, DDS of Tacoma, Washington, rescued a dying tooth of mine that she told me nearly all dentists
would have referred for root canal. In support, I ingested each day multi-gram quantities of vitamin C complex (not only
ascorbic acid) and other immune-stimulating substances.
17
clxix
agencies against such pioneering people. And so the FDA withheld its fire.
But the
Colorado Dental Association deprived the brilliant Dr. Hal Huggins of his license in Colorado
for telling the truth and practicing accordingly. He now practices dentistry and tells the truth
in Mexico.
On top of all that, American dentists directly promote degenerative diseases including cancer in
their patients through their anesthetics. They use $500 million worth of procaine, lidocaine,
prilocaine, etc. annually. According to an authority, Dr. Alfred Nickel, these aniline-based
anesthetics “are well documented human poisons, classic carcinogens and neurotoxins. The most
effective route of delivery is injection into the human bloodstream. Entering the body in this
manner, they escape both gastrointestinal absorption and liver detoxification.”
Other members of the aniline family include benzene, phenol, hydroquinone, toluene, xylene and
naphthalene. All of them “accumulate in and damage the bone marrow, causing anemia and
depressing immune function,”clxx as well as starting and promoting cancers. Injection of more than
one gram of anilines can also cause headache, paresthesias, hyperalgia, polyneuritis, dizziness,
hypotension, convulsion, muscle weakness and digestive distress. Dr. Nickel cites German
literature showing allergies and “other known neurotoxicities” in human subjects from
hydroxyaniline, a breakdown product of novocaine and procaine. A host of other aniline-induced
symptoms have been recorded in animal studies.clxxi
“Our research team,” wrote Susan Stockton, MA, “noted a curious and intriguing commonality
among the 30 cancer patients evaluated at a recent meeting of the tumor board at a local hospital.
Each patient’s dental history was visualized on the total body scans (crowns, fillings, etc. produce
shadows on the film). The total body scans clearly demonstrated that each of these cancer
patients had undergone from 12 to 28 crown and bridge dental procedures, involving extensive
exposure to local anesthetics.”clxxii clxxiii Dr. Huggins' and Jack Levenson's tests show that mercury
upsets protein metabolism and gut flora. The intestinal lining provides not only half of the immune
system, but also half of the detoxification system for the body. This can lead to food particles'
remaining undigested, set up allergies and lead to the overgrowth of opportunistic yeasts such as
Candida albicans. Some people cannot get rid of Candida symptoms until they clear out the
mercury.clxxiv
_____________________________________________________________________________
Five patients with unrecognized vitamin B12 deficiency developed subacute combined
degeneration of the spinal cord following nitrous oxide (N2O) dental anesthesia. It produced an
irreversible oxidation of the cobalt (Co2+ and Co3+) fraction of the B12 molecule inactivating B12,
which is sometimes called cobalamin.clxxv Dentists and anesthesiologists should determine B12
level by testing methylmalonic acid and homocysteineclxxvi before using N2O. (Note the distinction
of nitrous oxide from benign, needed nitric oxide, NO.)
______________________________________________________________________________
Isn’t all this a strong case for class-action lawsuits? Canadians for Mercury Relief have instituted a
class-action suit challenging the use of mercury in dental fillings. Phone and fax: (416) 4106314.clxxvii And class-action suits against dental mercury are under way in the U.S. Some dental
assistants, who like the dentists themselves are doubly exposed, have experienced damage to
their health that was described at “very catastrophic on their lives.”clxxviii See earlier comment on
the new California requirement to post warnings on Mercury and root canals in dental offices.
Class actions against the root-canal industry they might be more difficult to sustain in courts of law,
since reactions from root canals are often long delayed.
18
On getting rid of mercury amalgams, Hans Raible expresses pessimism. “My guess is that things
like mercury can only be phased out as general affluence increases, since the alternatives to
amalgam tend to be more costly, and the insurance companies will only pay amalgams. They have
their own ‘Scientific Service’ here [Stuttgart, Germany] which just outputs lies about the innocence
of Hg and has ‘experts” who will testify in court if need arises.” clxxix Charles Brown of Coalition to
Abolish Mercury in Dental Fillings confirms, “It is lower-income people who are more likely to get
the [mercury] fillings because of cost limits in Medicaid and insurance plans.” clxxx
Amalgam removal must be done by a dentist skilled in the procedure, during which the patient
inhales pure oxygen and his or her mouth is protected by a dam to prevent inhalation of any
Mercury. In unskilled hands, uncontrolled release of Mercury fumes can be very hazardous to the
patient as well as to the dentist and staff. About 400 substitute materials exist. All patients tested
clxxxi
appear to react somewhat to all the substitute materials;
one of the most popular caused
clxxxii
reaction in 95% of patients.
Expensive blood tests are needed to determine which material is
clxxxiii clxxxiv
best compatible with a sensitive person's biochemical individuality.
Some of the electricity is described as negative. Dr. Huggins has found that people with
severe neurological diseases such as MS, epilepsy, depression and suicidal thoughts
typically have fillings with negative electrical current. It is vitally important to have the fillings
showing negative electricity removed first, starting with the one showing the highest
negative reading. Allowing for this, amalgams are best removed by quadrants: upper left,
lower left etc. A typical patient with gum disease throughout his mouth had his gum disease
disappear in each quadrant, one at a time as the amalgams were removed.
And people process thoughts differently when they no longer have mercury in their mouths,
clxxxv
reported Dr. Huggins.
Dentists do still another nasty deed. They promote drinking-water fluoridation. The late,
distinguished Dean Burk, PhD, National Cancer Institute’s highly respected former chief chemist
and one of the Institute’s founders, estimates there are 60,000 avoidable fluoride-related cancer
deaths in America every year; “Fluoride causes more human cancer death and causes it faster
than any other chemical.”clxxxvi Also, perinatal deaths in a test period were 15 percent higher in
fluoridated than in unfluoridated parts of Britain. Fluoridation lowers intelligence; it increases dental
decay in children of low-income families, and it elevates risk of cocaine abuse and violent
behavior. clxxxvii
______________________________________________________________________________
Mainline dentists push fluoridation because it multiplies their business. After ten years of
fluoridation in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Dr. William Ellis visited each dental lab and all suppliers of
castings, splints, etc. Capping had risen 500%, fractures 800%. They were selling as many fracture
materials in six weeks as they formerly sold in a year.clxxxviii And after San Francisco started
fluoridation, the number of dentists per thousand persons was soon double that of other large cities
that were unfluoridated. Their net income grew 141 percent.clxxxix
In summary: Mercury amalgam fillings increase antibiotic resistance and risk of dangerous blood
clots. Root canals, often installed after tooth death caused by dentists’ use of high-speed drills,
promote clot-laden focal infections anywhere in the body. Infection from any of these sources can
19
lead to a lifetime of poor health. So it appears that dentists, and especially endodontists, rank right
up there with hospitals as dealers of needless suffering and premature death among those who
claim they seek to help large numbers of people.
