Senior Sponsorship Coordinator

Job purpose
1. Generate funding for the Mayor’s annual St Patrick’s Day Festival, and public sector
funding for the annual Respect festival
2. Generate sponsorship for other GLA activities from a wide range of both private and
public sector bodies to raise additional revenue to fund GLA led projects.
3. Provide support to the Sponsorship Manager, in particular, to research, cultivate, and
maintain the network of GLA sponsorship contacts and to contribute to the smooth
running of the GLA sponsorship unit through regular reports to the Sponsorship
Manager.
4. Account manage relationships between the GLA and its existing and past sponsors,
including, issuing contracts, ensuring all sponsorship benefits are delivered and that
open and clear communication is maintained between the Authority and funders.
Principal accountabilities

Meet the agreed income target for the annual St Patrick’s Day Festival through event
sponsorship, in-kind sponsorship, exhibition stands and advertising.

Work with the GLA Culture team and colleagues in the sponsorship unit on income
generation for the annual Respect Festival, with specific responsibility for sponsorship
from the not for profit sector, and additional income from the sale of exhibition stands
and advertising.

Meet agreed income targets for generating income for additional GLA led projects as
identified by the Sponsorship Manager.

Liaison role across the organisation to identify potential sponsorship opportunities,
working on a wide range of promotional activities including new media, printed
information, events and exhibitions etc.

Work within the Sponsorship Unit’s procedures to administer and deliver sponsorship
contracts.

Deliver sponsorship packages, by acting as the GLA’s main point of contact for
sponsoring organisations in order to ensure that the sponsorship package is delivered
effectively e.g. supply of logos etc. and that the needs and expectations of the sponsoring
organisation are met, with particular responsibility for account managing those involved
in St Patrick’s Day.

Ensure that sponsorship packages “add value” to the GLA brand and do not damage the
organisation, demonstrating a knowledge of political sensitivities to sponsorship.

Ensure that the GLA corporate identity is recognised at all times in terms of the
production of materials to support sponsorship activity.

Manage resources allocated to the job in accordance with the Authority’s policies and
Code of Ethics and Standards.

Realise the benefits of London’s diversity by promoting and enabling equality of

communities, operating in a politically restricted post.

Realise the benefits of a flexible approach to work in undertaking the duties and
responsibilities of this job, and participating in multi disciplinary cross-department and

Mayor’s Communications Advisor, other Mayor’s Advisors, the GLA
family, suppliers and other external organisations.
Key attributes
1. Experienced sponsorship professional, with a proven track record of generating
sponsorship for corporate events, campaigns and publications or a background in
sponsorship management.
2.
Network of live contacts in both the private and public sector.
3. Computer literate, including Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint experience.
4. Understanding of marketing communications and the role of sponsorship within it.
5. Sensitivity to the political landscape and the impact this can have on sponsorship
activities.
6. Strong verbal and written communications skills and good presentation skills.
7. Ability to identify the necessary support processes required to process and deliver
effective sponsorship packages.
8. Project management skills with the ability to work on own initiative, accurately to tight
deadlines, and to prioritise between conflicting demands.
9. Evidence in building and forming working relationships across professional and
operational boundaries within organisations and with external organisations.
10. An understanding of the GLA's commitment to equality of opportunity and valuing
diversity, and the ability to translate this into action
