The SUMERIS Accounting System
The SUMERIS Accounting System is a series of seamlessly integrated
modules providing real-time accounting and business management
software.
Designed in a multi-threaded client/server architecture, it supports multiple
network users and distributed information is made available to all client
applications anywhere in a network.
Network access to QuantaFlow is totally transparent accross Intel and NeXT
computer platforms.
The SUMERIS Accounting System is specifically designed for
NEXTSTEPTM_and takes advantage of the ease-of-use and power of such an
object-oriented operating system.
Installation
The fat version of QuantaFlow/InFlow runs on all computers running
NEXSTEP 3.x. To fully install this DEMO version you will need the following
files:
SUMERIS_Accounting_2.1_v8.NIHS.b.tar
To complete the installation of this quad-fat version, you will need about 60MB of
disk space.
COUNTRY VERSIONS other than the US version:
To install country specific modules (other than the US) you will also
need the corresponding file:
SUMERIS_Accounting_2.1_v8_Country_France.NIHS.b.tar for France
SUMERIS_Accounting_2.1_v8_Country_Canada.NIHS.b.tar for Canada
A thin version for Intel processors is also available ; to use this version use
the following files instead:
SUMERIS_Accounting_2.1_v8.I.b.tar
A thin version for NeXT Computers may also be available ; to use this
version use the following files instead:
SUMERIS_Accounting_2.1_v8.N.b.tar
To complete the installation of a thin version (Intel, NeXT or Sparc), you will need about
18 MB of disk space.
To complete the installation proceed as follows:
Copy the file for the SUMERIS Modules
SUMERIS_Accounting_2.1_v8.NIHS.b.tar into the hard disk of your computer in
/LocalLibrary or ~/Library and decompress it using Decompress from the Workspace File
menu.
This process will restore the following file on your computer's hard disk:
· SUMERISModules.tar.gz
· QuantaFlow.app.tar.gz
· InFlow.app.tar.gz
· SUMERISCountry_XXX.pkg a package which contains country specific ressources
(XXX stands for US, France, Canada...)
· some other supporting files
(1) Install the SUMERIS Modules first
A suitable place for the SUMERISModules is /LocalLibrary or ~/Library.
If you want to use the system over the network make sure the SUMERISModules folder
can be accessed from a remote machine.
To restore the SUMERISModules folder from SUMERISModules.tar.gz proceed as
follows:.
· Go into the directory where the file is located (/LocalLibrary or ~/Library):
To do so, in a Terminal window type:
cd /LocalLibrary
(or : cd ~/Library )
Press return while in the Terminal window.
· decompress the file using gnutar
To do so, in a Terminal window type
gnutar xfpz SUMERISModules.tar.gz
Then press return.
wait for the decompression process to finish (it will take a few minutes)
When the process is over for each file, you will find the SUMERISModules folder. You
can then destroy the compressed file SUMERISModules.tar.gz.
(2) Install the Application in /LocalApps or ~/Apps
The aplications files are QuantaFlow.app.tar.gz and InFlow.app.tar.gz.
This process will restore the following files:
To restore the applications proceed as follows:
· Go into the directory where the files QuantaFlow.app.tar.gz and
InFlow.app.tar.gz are located:
To do so, in a Terminal window type:
cd
followed by a space and drag the Workspace icon of the folder where the files are
located and drop it into your Terminal window.
You should now read in your Terminal window:
cd pathOfFolder
where pathOfFolder is the path to the folder where the files are.
Press return while in the Terminal window.
· decompress the files using gnutar
To do so, in a Terminal window type
gnutar xfpz QuantaFlow.app.tar.gz
Then press return.
wait for the decompression process to finish.
Do the same for the InFlow file InFlow.app.tar.gz:
gnutar xfpz InFlow.app.tar.gz
QuantaFlow.app and InFlow.app are the user applications. They should be placed in an
Apps folder (/LocalApps or ~/Apps for example)
(3) Install Country Related Ressources
The software cannot be run without installing the SUMERISCountry_XXX.pkg package,
where XXX is the name of the country versions you wish to use. To install country related
resources, double-click on the file package SUMERISCountry_XXX.pkg to bring up the
NeXTSTEP Installer application.
IMPORTANT:
Install the package inside the folder where the SUMERIS Modules are located
(typically, set the Install folder as /LocalLibrary/SUMERISModules if the
SUMERISModules folder is inside /LocalLibrary)
Using InFlow with the Demo Company
You may want to follow the Demo Script provided in this distribution in file
Demo_script.rtfd to get
In some cases when you use InFlow and open the Demo Company accounting
database, the system may request the location of this company's document folder
location.
In this distribution this folder is called "InFlowDocuments_DemoCompany" and is
unarchived with the SUMERISCountry_XXX.pkg . When the InFlow panel appears and
asks you whether you wish to Create or Locate the company's Document Folder,
choose Locate and select the folder InFlowDocuments_DemoCompany.
IMPORTANT DEMO INFORMATION
The demo version supports all QuantaFlow & InFlow features of the full version, but:
· some QuantaBase features are available in QuantaFlow and InFlow. These
functions are available in the full release only if you own a valid QuantaBase license.
An alert panel will indicate such features.
· some features in QuantaFlow and InFlow are only available provided you own the
proper additional modules and licenses. An alert panel will indicate such features. One
such feature is the ability to export and import Typed Transactions from a text file (in
the standard version, only general transactions can be imported; typed transactions
being exported as general transactions).
· With the DEMO versions, you cannot print QuantaReport documents (you can still
print QuantaFlow reports).
· The database demo version will not expand as more disk space is needed; therefore,
you cannot create more than a predefined amount of information. Also, your database
access is limited and you will not be able to open more than 2 accounting
databases/companies at once; if you try to do so you will get a Server message like
"no_such_table".
